Correct me, but I think Smithfield (and several others these days) are owned by some Chinese outfit with an HQ in Hong Kong.

IIRC they bought up Tyson (maybe chicken group) and I think even Farmland.

It’s beyond horrifying that China has been allowed to run rampant thru the US and buy whatever they want. That so much of our food industry is owned by ChiCom, and that we pay our groceries with money that ends up in their pockets even if it wasn’t made in China.

NO foreign country, and NO foreign countries’ companies, should EVER own/run/control/buy into/etc. NO American company. NEVER!!!
