“the same people whining about ‘cancel culture’ were all for canceling the Dixie Chicks and the NFL”
Apples and oranges.
One fundamental difference is that the cancel culture is attacking people for doing what is right, honorable, and noble. Comparing the two is like saying it is wrong to spank a child for misbehaving because some parents spank their children for getting caught shoplifting.
Cancel culture is also about taking away free speech, the ability to have a bank account, or to hold a job.
Boycotting a brand or business because they do not represent you is an entirely different thing.
Further, a good boycott can bring about positive changes and reform. Cancel culture is an extension of the politics of personal destruction and has the ultimate aim of killing people who get in the way of the left’s unquenchable thirst for power.
I can boycott the Dixie Chicks and members of the NFL while still supporting their right to express their opinions on social media, keep money safely in a bank account, and receive good service at their favorite restaurants.
I have no problem with a liberal refusing to buy pillows from an advertiser on Rush Limbaugh. I DO have a BIG problem with their attempts deplatform, demonetize, and pretty much murder ALL conservatives.
Either you believe in boycotts and canceling people, or you don’t.
I will *NEVER* let the politics, religion, or any other factor in the life of an artist or entrepreneur in the slightest effect my purchasing or enjoyment of their product, and may those who do, left or right, have no joy in life.
