ARLINGTON, Va.—Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today issued the following statement from Dan Pearson, AFP Trade Policy Fellow, on the Biden administration’s decision to suspend tariffs previously imposed on billions of dollars of EU goods stemming from the Boeing-Airbus dispute. The move has prompted the EU to follow suit, setting the stage for settlement of the dispute and further opening trade markets. The suspension will last four months while the countries attempt to resolve the matter:
“Again, we applaud the Biden administration for moving to reduce burdensome tariffs and put an end to the trade war that has harmed American businesses, workers, and consumers. We are hopeful these moves will lead to a lasting settlement and expanded opportunities for trade in the future. We look forward to working with the administration to remove barriers to open markets and freer trade so Americans everywhere can enjoy the prosperity that comes with them.”
Removing the tariffs from the Brit products made sense, since the British left the EU.
But here, we have the heart of the matter: tariffs countering subsidies to Airbus have been removed.
Not good for us.
PING!
EU subsidies for Airbus and tariffs on associated EU products being removed, that is.
Ever notice how Leftists just LOVE to name their front groups to sound like something Americans would be for, but in reality, they are virulently in opposition to?
Like “Americans For Prosperity”.
I think they’re more libertarian than leftists. And when it comes to issues involving things beyond our shores, such as immigration and trade, libertarians will open their minds so wide that they’ll fall right in. So break out the tinfoil and have some fun!
I think you hit on it right there...they fell right in.
One of the advantages and disadvantages of being Libertarian is that you only need to be coarsely consistent with your ideology, things that aren’t consistent are...unimportant.
Was this another Bye-den bartering or haggling away more of our international trade policy ?
Expect more .
BOHICA !
BOHICA INDEED!
I don’t have a problem tariffing subsidized or dumped products from other countries, as long as we’re not subsidizing or dumping our similar products at the same time.
Biden's puppet regime lifts tariffs on the EU (which got hit with tariffs because it doesn't honor agreements or follow rules), and will now find some ways to punish the UK, which, as you said, has left the EU.
They already lifted tariffs on UK products related to the Boeing-Airbus dispute, so I’m not sure how much punishment is actually in the offing.
