When government controls education
My first lessons in politics did not come from teachers, it came from everything other than teachers. What politics I learned from teachers, was always proven wrong. That's really the point of this article, as well. The author learned from example, not from teaching.
From teachers, I learned, among other things, that "Ugly Americans" were hated in the world, the United Nations was loved, the US won WWII only because it was "lucky" to have abundant natural resources, government was good, and Social Security was even better. I learned many more lies from teachers, as well.
As a first year "baby boomer" I was fortunate to have had a number of family members who knew better. Those who actually fought in the war told of the sacrifices of American volunteers who won the war, and along with it the love of the people they freed. I remember being confused about the oft repeated "Ugly American" stories that contrasted so much with stories from actual participants.
When I started working for a living, seeing how much the government confiscated from my hard earned paycheck, I learned about the inefficiencies in waste of government. I am still amazed how much the government confiscates from my income, and How little I get in return.
It is quite unfortunate how much of politics is in direct contrast with that which is taught in schools and must be self taught.
“ “Their conclusion is if you want schools to reopen right now, then that means you are racist against African Americans and Latinos,”
Ok then, that’s fine. Get back to work.
They need Wisconsin’s Act 10 in California (and every state).
Is their work not essential? Doctors, nurses, all clerical staff at hospitals all went to work, bravely knowing the risks but it was their duty, their job. Grocery store clerks, Home Depot, Costco, Lowes, Fred Meyer, all went to work a year ago, why the he** does the teachers union get special treatment? They haven’t missed one day of pay either, infuriating.
