The president is planning a multi-trillion effort to fix America’s infrastructure and kickstart the economy. But can he get Republicans on board?
Joe Biden came to power promising a New Deal-like economic agenda that would not only combat the Covid-19 pandemic, which has now claimed more than half a million lives in the US and caused unemployment not seen since the Great Depression, but also confront the deep-rooted disparities it has exposed.
Biden hails 'giant step' as Senate passes $1.9tn coronavirus relief bill Read more After a blitz of executive orders in the opening days of his presidency, Biden is on the verge of achieving the first major piece of his multi-pronged relief and recovery plan, a $1.9tn coronavirus stimulus package expected to reach his desk by the end of next week.
But the partisan tightrope Biden has walked to advance the sweeping pandemic relief bill – which enjoys broad public support – likely foreshadows even greater challenges that lie ahead as he pivots from “rescue” mode to his next and possibly biggest legislative act: a multi-trillion dollar plan to rebuild the country’s ailing infrastructure.

Biden can have an FDR moment by holding a fireside chat, but his handlers don’t dare to allow it.
He has a 60% approval rating according to some radio news I heard last night. But only ten followers. It’s incredible! Lol
“...but only ten followers.” On Twitter? That’s all that are left on that site.
I have no idea. I made up the number. Lolol
Biden and FDR are more alike than people are being told. FDR came into office as an economic imbecile. Having no clue what to do, he listened to every snake oil salesman who could catch his ear, many of them Communists. This resulted an a hodgepodge of useless Big Government “recovery programs”, some of them blatantly un-Constitutional, which exacerbated the economic downturn into the full-blown ten year catastrophe we know as The Great Depression.
Biden is doing the exact same thing. Too mentally deficient to make reasoned judgements, he’s letting the inmates loose to run rampant.
Every last one of them works for CNN.
Apparently, he hasn’t heard a word from Milton Fried or Thomas Sowell.
What a moron this lady is. Bankruptcy of a country, unprecedented discourse between political parties, knowingly cheating and stealing of an election, and full blown dementia will be his legacy. Get up off your knees and show some self respect Gambino.
Trump had wanted to spend money on the nation’s transportation infrastructure (airports, roads, bridges . . . and yes trains). Ryan and McConnell could not have been less interested. If you HAVE to spend $1.9 trillion on something, you may as well get some better NYC airports out of it or something. Biden and the Democrats couldn’t be less interested, either.
He’s just like FDR:)))))))))) But instead of being crippled in his legs, he’s crippled in his brain. OOOOOOOOOO!:)))))))))))))))/dripping, obvious sarcasm, for those who need to be told.
Don’t forget the chaos at the border, you Neanderthal.
I thought they meant he was like FDR because the press never mentioned his obvious condition (being wheelchair-bound) just like with Biden.
Not new deal but the New Dilemma. There is a 1930’s book by that title that perfectly analyzes the holes in the fdr deal and that speaks truth on the government idiocracy/corruption that still plagues us now.
He’s also like FDR in that he’s letting a minority perish in concentration camps.
Inquiring minds want to know!
Funny hoe they quickly start working on his legacy when he hasn’t done an fn thing yet, no nobel peace prize?
Under FDR, the nation came to full employment and a fairer distribution of income as a result of WWII.
FDR's New Deal programs and policies had little or nothing to do with bringing us out of the Depression.
FDR died in office so maybe the guardian is onto something about legacies after all...
