Commie land grab. They will probably put a ridiculous tax on real estate, maybe associated with estate settlement, to force people to turn it over to the government at bargain basement prices. We won’t be able to afford to keep it.

Which reminds me of a story from my first career as a bank examiner. It was in a small family-owned bank. The son ran the bank and the old man, probably in his 90’s at the time, came in every day and opened the mail at his desk. This story happened in the early 1980’s.

I struck up a conversation with the old man one day. I don’t know how we got into the conversation, but he told me, “You had to be careful in the Depression when you bought land. If you didn’t watch carefully, the seller would put an extra forty on you and you would have to pay the taxes on it.”

It seems what goes around, comes around.

"Haley 7, United States nothing." In 1866 congress wanted to prevent Andrew Johnson from appointing justices, so it passed a law setting the number at 7 (but none retired or died during Johnson's presidency). Since 1869 (the year Johnson's term expired) it has been 9.
