Sports fans in New York can now use a state-issued “pass” to prove they’re COVID-free before the next big game at Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center.
The “Excelsior Pass,” which began with a pilot program launched Feb. 27 for a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center, will utilize a mobile QR code that confirms a negative coronavirus test or that someone has been fully vaccinated.
The pass developed in partnership with IBM and functions similar to a mobile boarding pass for air travel, will next be tested Tuesday for a New York Rangers game at MSG.
Gov. Cuomo said the program will play a critical role in getting information to venues and sites in a secure and streamlined way, “allowing us to fast-track the reopening of these businesses and getting us one step closer to reaching a new normal.”
“We’re doing everything we can to vaccinate as many New Yorkers as possible, as quickly as possible, while keeping the infection rate down and reenergizing our economy in a safe, smart way,” the governor said in a statement. “As we begin reopening the valves on different sectors of our economy, we are putting guidelines in place to ensure individuals attending events involving larger gatherings have tested negative for COVID or have been vaccinated to avoid an outbreak of the virus.”

And this sounds like a good way to keep all of those “out of towners” that “real New Yorkers” detest from attending games and Broadway, if and when it reopens.
I don’t think NY is going to be on anyone’s vacation list for a long time to come.
I won’t go anywhere that requires this BS.
I was wondering if only New York residents can get these passes. If so, that will in effect ban tourists from attending.
I’ve heard Broadway shows get huge numbers of tourists, and some shows get more tourists than locals attending.
Why don’t they just have everyone who hasn’t been vaccinated wear a yellow star? It’s simple, instantly visible and there’s a historical precedent.
Are we on a slippery slope? You might be able to prove you didn’t have covid, but you could have some other contagious disease.
I sure hope this doesn’t evolve into needing a comprehensive health passport everywhere you go.
Slippery slope?
More like a bobsled run.
I won’t be getting this pass, even if offered in my city. There is nothing I want to see.
Bye bye, the NBA will be playing courts back in the ghetto, the NFL will be playing street ball and I wont even watch on TV

Nope

A covid test is good at the moment it is, or even sooner.. administered (maybe) and totally useless as soon as the tested individual walks out the door.
Right !
Screw sports. They are over with me.
Most of Washington and All of Wall Street loved Marx and Hitler, the Majority of the Rockefeller Republicans and the entire Demonrat Party from the Top down fully supported Adolf until he Invaded Mother Russia.
History repeats . . .
Bet counterfeits hit the market just as quick as the real passes.
