Trump had no real choice. And remember, Trump never had control over the DOJ. They already claim “independence” even though it is not legally justified.
They also had Mitch and Ryan in their corner. Trump was given a list of candidates they would confirm.. period.
After Comey her was ordered “no more firings”, and “here is who you may hire”. If he fired Wray or Rosenstein he would have been instantly impeached by the republicans.
Trump had about 45% control over one third of our government. I figure Trump had around 14% of the power in DC. He did damned good for that level of power.
What is the evidence of your claims on this?
IMO if indeed that were the case, Trump should have just sent solid nominees and had a solid interim FBI director.
Instead I think the real story is that Trump’s pal and confidante Chris Christie pushed Wray—and convinced him that he’d be a loyal appointment.
