Democrats push to limit guns, but more people want them

Democrats on Tuesday announced plans to re-up their push for new gun control measures, but they face a recently changed landscape of more people than ever, especially black people and women, buying firearms for protection.

What’s more, the promoters of the package to expand FBI background checks are facing demands from liberals to do far more, including banning the sale of semi-automatic firearms and registering ammunition.

In reintroducing the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler are hoping for a quick approval.

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, a gun control advocate, introduced a companion bill in the Senate.

“With Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson’s reintroduction of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, the Democratic House is continuing its urgent action to end the epidemic," Pelosi said. "Guided by the voices of millions of young people marching for their lives and aided by the leadership of the Biden-Harris administration, the Democratic Congress will continue our work to ensure H.R. 8 and other lifesaving gun violence prevention measures are finally enacted into law. Enough is enough.”

Within minutes of the announcement, groups that support gun restrictions, including Giffords, announced their support, showing the coordination between anti-gun lawmakers and interest groups.

The gun industry said the package may skip the committee process and head directly to the House floor. But once passed, it faces an uncertain future in the Senate, where some Democrats from gun states are expected to reject it.

When I changed occupations in 2002, it became necessary to review my self-defense preparations. Evidently, I had been asleep up to that point because I was unaware of all the existing technology and products which were denied to me by federal law. In particular I could buy a 10-round pistol magazine for $20, or a 10+ Pre-ban magazine for $50. It seemed like the rules were nuts. As a late-comer I did what I could. When the ban expired I was prepared to never be caught behind again ...

Most people are finding a problem. Once you get the gun, nobody has ammo. I met a lady in a pawn shop 2 or 3 months ago looking for.380 rounds, she had just bought a .380. Everyone in the place told her nope, haven’t seen a .380 round in 6 months...she left empty handed and very discouraged. I haven’t seen any 9mm, 38, 357, 45 in 6 months last .22 rounds I saw were $19 for a box of 50. Last time anyone had any 9mm it was $30 a box, literally twice the cost of 2 months before. And it was gone in under a day, with a one box limit. 2000 rounds sold out in half a day.

The only thing I know of available right now is some 20 round boxes of .380 HP at $30 a box. Might be $40, can’t remember. Another pawn shop had a few boxes of .45 about 2 or 3 weeks ago, 20 rounds $45. No 9mm at all, or 22, 38, 357, 45, only a half dozen boxes of rifle rounds in oddball calibers, some I’ve never even heard of. No buckshot of any gauge, nothing for 12 ga but #9 bird shot. A few #9 for 410, I think a few 20 ga too. All bird shot, nothing else.

Something has to give. This is almost full year of a run on both guns and ammo. With Remington out of the picture 3 ammo manufacturers are out of commission, (Remington, CCI, and at least one other, Norma I think) the rest can’t keep up.

Tension is increasing with every XO biden signs. Jobs are going away. Illegals are coming back. biden said in 1993 “gun confiscation is an idea whose time has come”. He’s wanted the chance for many years. His handlers want the same.

A year or two ago I would have laughed (and did) at the conspiracy theorists’ insistence that CWII was coming. Now I think it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. Everything is cleaned and oiled.

That’s why owning a “GAP round” is good to have in times like these. Although hard to find, I’m still able to locate 40 and 10MM from time to time at a gun shop or online.

380, 9MM and 38 is almost impossible to find. So I say let the bartering begin.

What ‘epidemic’ is Pelosi referring to? Why it’s the ‘gun-violence epidemic’. Except there is no such thing as gun violence. There is human violence that uses guns. The vast majority of this human violence is committed by one demographic most of whose characteristics cannot/must not be named. They are male—that much can be said.
