Molnupiravir is an experimental antiviral drug which is orally active and was developed for the treatment of influenza. It is a prodrug of the synthetic nucleoside derivative N4-hydroxycytidine, and exerts its antiviral action through introduction of copying errors during viral RNA replication. Activity has also been demonstrated against coronaviruses including SARS, MERS and SARS-CoV-2.

Monoclonal antibodies

US approves Regeneron antibody treatment given to Trump

What is the antibody cocktail Trump received? (< - that is a sub-header/sub-title in the article:)
https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/10/heres-what-known-about-president-donald-trump-s-covid-19-treatment

A portion of that article:

[”The antibody cocktail”] is a combination of two antibodies directed against a key protein of the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2. They bind to a region on the main surface spike protein that helps the virus attach to a receptor on human cells called angiotensin-converting enzyme. The targeted region is dubbed the receptor binding domain.

Hydroxychloroquine is not a cure, nor a medication that halts COVID-19, nor *literally* “prevents death.”

BUT . . .

Hydroxychloroquine DOES significantly frustrate SARS-2-CoV reproduction.

Mobeen Syed, MD’s mechanism explanations, will illustrate, for example, how Hydroxychloroquine thwarts the ability of SARS-2-CoV to connect with the ACE2 receptor of a human cell.

In addition, Hydroxychloroquine frustrates the ability of SARS-2-CoV to use the mRNA within that cell, for purposes of reproducing SARS-2-CoV.
