Ex-Trump aide Pierson planning run for Congress © Greg Nash A former top strategist for Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns is taking steps to run for a U.S. House seat left vacant by the late Rep. Ron Wright (R-Texas), who succumbed to the coronavirus earlier this year.

Katrina Pierson, a Tea Party activist who served as a spokesperson for Trump’s 2016 campaign and as top adviser on his failed re-election bid, is planning to file in the coming days to run for Wright’s seat, based southeast of Fort Worth and stretching into rural Ellis and Navarro counties, according to five sources with knowledge of her planning.

A source close to Pierson said she is building a campaign team ahead of a likely announcement, though a final decision about whether to enter the race was coming in the next day or two. ...

The widow gets the sympathy vote but we need young blood and ‘people of color’. Sorry folks but it helps.

Find out who McCarthy and McConnell endorse.

Bet ya it isn’t Pierson.

Whomever they endorse, vote for the other candidate.

God Bless Her but I'm not much for sympathy vote hierarchies. In effect, Mrs. Wright participated in her husband's tenure and so has already had her turn. Nothing personal against Mrs. Wright but I prefer fresh blood for vacant seats. (and yes, I would be consistent and wouldn't vote for a Don Jr after Don Sr, for the exact same reason)

FWIW Pierson was seen by some as having sabotaged the Jan 6th event in DC. I wouldn’t necessarily go seeing her as legit MAGA.

The more Trump loyalists the better. It more than likely means that they won’t be allies of McConnell and McCarthy. Down with the establishment!

There’s more. How many of these widows ran to the left of their deceased husbands?Mary Bono. Then there’s one who represented Monterey, Ca. Basically they’re like John Kerry’s wife-he who served in Viet Nam.

“...Three Democrats have also thrown their hats into the ring to run for the Texas House seat: Jana Lynne Sanchez, who lost the race for seat in 2018, Lydia Bean, who lost a race for a spot in the state House in 2020, and Shawn Lassiter, a Fort Worth educator. Republican businessman John Anthony Castro is also running.

There will be no primary for the race, so every candidate will appear on the ballot together in May.”

This is interesting. Does Texas have a run off when no candidate gets the majority of votes in a special election? Or does whoever gets the most votes in the initial election win, even if it’s not a majority?

Pierson will not have the primary to herself. Susan Wright, a prominent Republican activist and Ron Wright’s widow, also plans to run. Sery Kim, who held a post in the Department of Health and Human Services during the first year of the Trump administration, has announced plans to run. So has state Rep. Jake Ellzey (R), a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who came within 1,100 votes of beating Wright in a race for an open seat in 2018.

Sounds like there are a number of conservative candidates who actually live in the district ready and willing to run. There are no lack of candidates so maybe Pierson should run in the district she actually lives in?

If no candidate gets an absolute majority then the run-off will be May 24th.
