White House climate czar to AP: Texas storm ‘a wake-up call’

WASHINGTON - The deadly winter storm that caused widespread power outages in Texas and other states is a “wake-up call” for the United States to build energy systems and other infrastructure that are more reliable and resilient in the face of extreme-weather events linked to climate change, President Joe Biden’s national climate adviser says.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Gina McCarthy said Friday that the storm that devastated Texas and other states “is not going to be as unusual as people had hoped. It is going to happen, and we need to be as resilient and working together as much as possible. We need systems of energy that are reliable and resilient as well.″

McCarthy said the scientific evidence is clear that more frequent and more dangerous storms are likely, “and if we really care about keeping our people working and keeping our kids healthy and giving them a future we’re proud of, then we’re not going to ignore these wake-up calls. We’re going to take action.″

McCarthy said Biden is committed to an all-of-government response to climate change, which she said was “part and parcel of a strategy to strengthen our economy and grow jobs” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But you are correct. The disaster in Texas during the Big Freeze was largely avoidable. It was not “Made in Texas”

But the Fix will be made by Texans.

No. Weather varies. Weather patterns change. There was a big ice age about 12 thousand years ago. The Sahara was under water.

Politicians are skilled at using natural phenomena to lie to the public.

Actually, most of the records that were broken in the southern states were set in 1936. Many of those records still stand. And that winter followed a string of record settling summer heat waves. I think global warming was really bad back then /s.

Actually, one of the biggest problems was that Texas couldn’t fire up their natural gas plants because of a stupid EPA rule made during Obama’s reign that said that NG pipeline pumps could not be run using NG from THE PIPELINE, but had to use ELECTRIC pumps powered from the grid.

When the grid shut down, so did the natural gas pipelines. There wasn’t any gas to run the natural gas power plants.

Yes it is. It proved Green energy windmills that freeze up and solar panels that get covered with ice and snow are a wake up call.
