'Florida got it right': Ron DeSantis touts coronavirus leadership
Washington Examiner ^ | February 26,2021 | David M. Drucker

Under DeSantis, Florida shied away from economic lockdowns and strict gathering limits, in contrast to other states, led by Democratic and Republican governors, that used both tools to mitigate the health risks posed by a pandemic that is nearly a year old. As a result, Florida has seen an influx of new residents, and its economy has been more resilient than in other states.

Crucially, there is no proof that Floridians suffered remarkably more from the coronavirus than people in states that took the opposite approach.

“Florida got it right, and the lockdown states got it wrong,” DeSantis said to open his CPAC speech, the first of Friday's session.

DeSantis has been a major booster of former President Donald Trump, and his remarks are an implicit nod in the Palm Beach resident's direction as a handful of House Republicans, and GOP activists nationally, argue the party should chart a new course.

“We cannot, we will not, go back to the days of the failed Republican establishment of yesteryear," DeSantis said, adding: "The question is: When the klieg lights get hot, when the Left comes after you, will you stay strong or will you fold?"

Start a new party. As long as your party is Republican, you’re stuck with the likes of McConnell, Graham, Romney, Sasse, Collins and Murkowski.

Remember, Abraham Lincoln won the presidency heading up a brand new party in a three-way race. It can be done.

I operate a business in Florida. We have been back in FULL operation since last March with 40 to 50 + people here every day in very close proximity to each other. No masks, no one sick and no one knows anyone that has been sick.

This year's CPAC is an audition for the next (insert name of party here) presidential candidate. If President Trump isn't the nominee - which will be totally his choice - he's watching and listening very carefully for the next contender, whom he will back to the hilt.

Governor DeSantis, in my opinion, is the leader of the pack so far.

If President Trump decides to run, DeSantis will certainly be in contention for the VP nomination.

I just re-read my post.

I should change my Freeper name to Captain Obvious.

But maybe that’s already taken.

Need more coffee.
