Ferlinghetti was named San Francisco’s Poet Laureate in August 1998 and served for two years. In 2003 he was awarded the Robert Frost Memorial Medal, the Author’s Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2003.
Precisely what did you enjoy? He used to slur words like he was drunk or high and made little sense. (to me anyway) Rudyard Kipling he was not!

I’m no fan but it sounds like he lived a very full and interesting life. However, these people who so successfully tore down one structure, which was beautiful and filled with light, have erected another one, dark with thick walls and iron gates, and we wont be given the keys to the exit.
IMHO - That is some really great stuff ! Kinda Bib Dylan -esque and salted with some interesting ambiguous political imagery

Yes, Savage tried to ingratiate himself into the beat scene back in the day and knew Ferlinghetti. He had a falling out with that scene and he has trashed Ferlinghetti many times on the radio show. Ginsberg as well.

I was in the audience once when the fellow on stage was doing literary impressions. He asked for a topic and an author. I called out “Ferlinghetti!”, and he did a surprisingly good impression.
He lived long enough to become part of the rotted and debauched establishment. Prayers for his soul.
