SCOTUS has been a “dishonest hack” institution for decades, nearly a century. The more you know, the more you come to realize it’s all about raw power. The fancy trimmings on top are a facade - one that works to fool a good share of the public.
Balance of power is an intramural squabble while all three branches are in cahoots. In other words, balance of power does nothing at all to limit the power of government.
As the brilliant George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
Part of that monologue was about elections, and how they mostly exist to make people think they have any say. As we learned very clearly in November (and really, almost all of 2020), we don’t.
