Not new news. Even NYT estimates herd immunity by April to July time frame due to a combination of vaccination and immunity through infection. Currently, they estimate about 40% of the general population in the US have immunity already. It looks like anything less than herd immunity will just mean delaying the inevitable. You can’t keep every one in home detention indefinitely. California and Germany looked better initially and now are getting at a later date.
