I always thought it was ironic that couples who had a son in China were more likely to have no grandchildren.

I often think how terrible it is for Chinese boys when it comes to loneliness. No sisters nor brothers, no uncles nor aunts, no cousins. Few gifts for their birthday! And then when they grow up, no wives and no children!

The whole one-child policy must make young folks feel they are an unwelcome burden on society.
Hard to work up enthusiasm to form a family under such repressive politics.
