A radical new approach to abortion has taken place in the UK in the last year. For the first time in history, an estimated 100,000 women have been able to have abortions at home.
The government must now decide if this "special measure" - designed to help women "stay home and protect the NHS" by keeping them out of clinics during the pandemic - should remain as a permanent abortion option for women.
There hasn't been much public debate about the changes - so I want to know what the implications are on safety and efficacy. And, since abortion remains a deeply controversial issue, I want to explore the moral and ethical dilemmas it raises.
I'm asking: Is abortion in the UK being revolutionised?
Abortion providers say at-home abortions have reduced waiting times and consequently made them safer.
80% of abortions took place before eight weeks gestation in 2020. This compares with 60% in 2019.
Major complications have gone down by two-thirds.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists welcome the changes.
"It's safer quite simply because this means that girls and women are not waiting. They're having their abortions at an earlier gestational age", said Professor Dame Leslie Regan, chair of the Abortion Taskforce.

And people wonder why third worlders are re-populating western countries.
The article does not specify of surgical or medicinal abortions. Both are disgusting but if this is surgical what’s next in socialized medicine. Home heart surgery? This is disgusting.
Keep someone comfortable at home in there jammies while ending a life ironically in the exact setting where the life was probably created
