Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) said on WISN’s “The Jay Weber Show” that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) speech saying former President Donald Trump was responsible for the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol dose not reflect the majority of Republican lawmakers.
Johnson said, “You got Leader McConnell voting not guilty, not to convict but then just providing a scathing speech on the floor of the Senate that does not reflect, I think, the majority of our conference. I haven’t done a whip check to find out what exactly how everybody thinks but you kinda put two and two together by their votes. So you’ve got our leader out there really representing himself and that is his right to do. But at the same time, he has to realize as our leader, what he says reflects on us. I didn’t particularly like it.”
He added, “We can’t afford to lose in 2022. We have to unity our party, our movement. And their is certainly elements of the Republican Party that never liked Trump and really thinks this is a great opportunity to purge the party of Trump. But as I have been advising my colleagues the group of people who have been supporting Trump, the hundreds of thousands of people that attend those Trump rallies those are people that love this country, that would never have done what happened on January 6 which is why I was not concerned. That is a group of people that love freedom. That is a group of people we need to unity and keep on our side.”

It seems probable to me that either the progressives have got some major dirt on McConnell, or that he has been given a glimpse of some inevitable (to him) future and is trying to stake out a base within that. Nothing other than blackmail or ambition can explain the risk he is taking by completely alienating and angering the vast majority of the conservative base. McConnell has no core convictions that explain what he is doing; he is a poster child for the modern Machiavellian.

Mitch McConnell is an old line Republican, that never really wanted to be in charge.. he just wanted the personal power and the money
To: RandFan
The personal attacks are accomplishing nothing. Time to start working on the issues. The RINOs can be dealt with during primary season— hopefully, their attackers will have the votes.

Ron, you elected him as your leader, what he says reflects on you.
Poor Mitch, he thinks he is popular and credible among the nationwide Republican voters.

“We can’t afford to lose in 2022. We have to unity our party, our movement.”
Am I wrong to be super cynical about EVERYTHING that comes from Washington right now?
I hear this every election cycle and nothing really changes.
We had an imperfect champion and republicans in DC never gave him a chance.
And still they expect us to vote for them because the other side is worse.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
‘Just cynical’ seems almost optimistic.

Yes he does, you picked him as your leader.
The GOP has spent the last 30 years importing a permanent Democrat majority and trying to get them amnesty.
Bush League Republicans ARE progressives.
They are turning the USA into North Mexico in order to steal it from the citizens and subsume it to the UN ao they can have their New World Order.
Pappy Bush was serious and the citizens of the USA are in the way.

President Trump appears to have triggered the Big Ugly, the confrontation against the DeceptiCon wing of the Uniparty, with a full-throated rebuke of Senator Mitch McConnell.
This statement from President Donald Trump is a good indicator of what lies ahead:

War it is then!… Giddy up.
REMINDER – […] Several DeceptiCon senators have already announced they will not run for re-election in 2020 [Shelby, Toomey, Burr, Portman and Johnson]. In the 2022 Senate races there are 34 seats up for grabs. 14 are held by Democrats and 20 are held by tenuous Republicans.
[Breakdown Here]
Due to vulnerability, their lack of support amid the republican base, and their insufferable 2020 behavior outing them as DeceptiCons it is almost guaranteed the GOP will lose seats in the 2022 mid-term election. Those exiting senators, among others, know what McConnell’s objective is. They also know this time the damage is far greater than previous times McConnell set about to destroy the base of the party.
Most casual political observers have absolutely no idea how McConnell works. However, for over a decade CTH has been trying –mostly failing– to awaken the base of common sense voters. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 the #1 priority for McConnell was to destroy the threat represented by the Tea Party. In 2022 we are seeing an exact replay of the same intents and purposes, only this time the target is President Trump’s MAGA movement.
It is a motive and agenda all wrapped up in the senate power structure. McConnell does not fear being in the minority; the color of the flag atop the spire of the UniParty senate does not matter to those underneath it. McConnell maneuvers with just as much power in the minority as he does in the majority; factually, he makes more money selling his DeceptiCon caucus votes to Chuck Schumer (on behalf of Wall Street) than he does in the majority where he is forced to purchase them. The entire thing is a rigged-game. (read more)
