At least eleven deaths have been linked to a dangerous winter storm system that's breaking records across the country. Some four million homes and business in Texas were without power early Tuesday as the electric system struggled to meet demand.
The record cold snap turned Texas into a tundra. Flurries fell in south Texas, blanketing Galveston's sandy beaches in white. Galveston's city manager warned infrastructure damage caused by the extreme temperatures could rival the cost of a hurricane.
Frozen roads sent an 18-wheeler careening out of control near Austin. A man nearly lost his life, jumping out of the way just seconds before a car lost control and crashed into a police cruiser.
"The ultra-low temperatures will last for several days, meaning that what becomes frozen will remain frozen for a long period of time," said Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
The historic storm also caused problems across the country.
Firefighters in Vermont rescued a young man from frigid waters after he fell through the ice. Tennessee roads turned into ice rinks after frozen precipitation fell. In Little Rock, Arkansas, cars were at a standstill on a slippery highway, trapping nurses who just got off their shift.
The temperature in parts of Oklahoma dipped below 20 degrees for five days straight for the third time ever. With another storm looming, crews worked to clear snow as fast as they could.

The Left will not waste this crisis. They will use it to permantly ration and control fuel and electricity distribution.
The greenies will learn nothing from this. Their answer will be “Just make windmills that run in the winter”. Instead of recognizing the obvious that the earth stopped warming 20 years ago, and they’re solving for a problem that no longer exists, and wasn’t caused by humans in the first place.
This ought to be national news. What occurred in Texas points up the epic fail that is the Green New Deal. It simply will not work.
Electric cars are a joke unless you intend to live your entire life within a twenty mile radius.
We need fossil fuels.
The left plans to freeze us in the dark so they can say “Trust government. We’ll rescue you!” and they will do what they did during the covid crisis — consolidate their grip of power over us.
The who bought my Tx home ripped out the gas fireplace and dearborn heaters, but he regrets that now.

It’s because the Commies want our freedom to travel restricted that they’re pushing electric cars.
4 degrees this am, middle of Dallas TX.
And the power just went off again.
.
There was a bumper sticker against he environmental activists referent to dying in the cold dark.
How are you making out?
TX is getting all the attention, but I don’t doubt many other states are in as bad shape.
What a joke considering the mess we're in is from trusting them.
OMG...prayers for Texans!
I despise the Left’s windmills. They destroy scenic views, kill millions of birds, and don’t produce electricity nearly as efficiently as fossil fuels. Yet they keep building them.
What it all means is that solar and wind power needs to be 100% backed up by coal nuclear gas and hydro or people can freeze at home. Plus it needs to be almost instantly available because weather can effect solar and wind power in a matter of minutes.
“Electric cars are a joke unless you intend to live your entire life within a twenty mile radius.”
It’s not what you intend, it’s what they intend.
For what it’s worth, greenies are starting to blame gas plants for the whole issue. All because despite wind completely failing, gas production was down greater than expected. How dare gas plants not pull the slack for wind power, in other words.
-6 in Tyler this morning. All-time record low since the last ice age. Most of the town is without power. We have only lost water. We are close to a fire station so that may explain why our power was not cut. All hope is lost.
Who builds a power plant to only be run during events such as this?
