....fusion usurps all the energy it creates to sustain the reaction, leaving no “net energy” to power other things.” Untrue. Fusion produces huge amounts of radiation of all sorts, some of which can be used to heat water to steam, which spins turbines and in turn spins generators.

Developing fusion involves math, which is racist. That problem has to be solved first.

Research by Sorbom and his colleagues focuses on improving the tokamak, specifically by “making better and better magnets,” Sorbom says. Better and stronger magnets mean better insulation for the plasma, and the more efficiently the plasma can be heated up, the more energy that can be generated, eventually producing net energy. In the machines CFS is working on, temperatures will be around 100 million degrees Celsius, which is roughly 180 million degrees Fahrenheit. Major detail...'the wall' has been the issue since the 80's...

I remember a cover of Scientific American announcing “flat screen TVs are here”. That was 1971.
We need to build a bunch of coal and gas plants immediately, and get started on a bunch of fission nuke plants.

Nothing new here. A waste of time. BTW, whatever happened to small thorium reactors? I thought that was the ticket.

Complete and total bull crap -they’ve been scamming people in the billions of dollars on this crap for years
And I’m talking about giant national labs CERN. all of them
have been scamming the taxpayers in Europe in the United States for decades
Fusion huh ?
OK let’s do combine deuterium and tritium them together right?
OK now you’ve got about 10,000,000°C. Assuming you can actually Slam together those isotopes hard enough that they fuse
Simple engineering question then. How are you going to contain that 10,000,000°C
I’m waiting for your answer

I never understood why Doc poured the coke into Mr. Fusion, then threw the can in - why not just put the whole thing in there to begin with?
Fusion has many upsides: First, it’s clean. (Most energy used around the world is generated by burning carbon-based materials that release gasses into the atmosphere, warming the planet.)
I love the way the author states this as fact. rather than opinion. Science is very rarely "settled", as there are advancements and new insights all the time, making out understanding to be increased.
