Senator Richard M. Burr’s decision to vote for the conviction of former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday added fuel to speculation that Lara Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter in-law, will seek the North Carolina Senate seat Mr. Burr will vacate in 2022.

Burr and Toomey have already said they aren’t running again. I doubt Collins will (she would be 80 at the end of another term). That leaves Romney, Sasse, Cassidy, and Murkowski. Two of those are up next year.

IMO Burr is leaving because he made millions on Insider Trading and was caught. Nothing happened to him as far as I know. Good riddance.

The only logic I can think of for Burr’s vote is to avoid having Biden’s DOJ reopening his insider trading case. If that is actually the case, Burr is likely to be a continual disappointment for two more years. We need recall for US Senators nationwide.

Toomey is retiring and wanted to run for Governor but his being against the 2000 dollar checks pretty much did him in cause PAs economy right now is in the crapper due to Covid

In NC, Dems cannot vote in a Rep primary. But if you're registered as Unaffiliated, you can vote in the primary of your choosing.
I think Lara would win.

I like Lara but I am tired of dynasties. She seems like a pretty weak candidate. But Trump will be forced to endorse her and I’d prefer someone with more experience and a proven track record of conservative views. A good candidate running against her would be forced to expend a lot of money for not good cause.
Richard Burr is another rags to political riches RINO. I was a volunteer helper for his first political run for congress and at that time he was a good candidate for the Republican party. He has morphed over time into what is a pretty pathetic role of RINO and his wealth will never compensate for what he has become. God help him. Seriously.
The hapless Toomey is not a candidate for reelection in 2022.
