After impeachment acquittal, Trump remains dominant in GOP

After he incited a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last month, the GOP considered purging the norm-shattering former president. But in the end, only seven of 50 Senate Republicans voted to convict Trump in his historic second impeachment trial on Saturday.

For Trump’s loyalists, the acquittal offers a vindication of sorts and a fresh connection to the former president’s fiery base. And for Trump’s GOP antagonists, it marks another alarming sign that the party is lurching further in a dangerous direction with little desire to reconnect with the moderates, women and college-educated voters Trump alienated.

reconnect with the moderates, women and college-educated voters

More propaganda from the AP.

Trump did not alienate those voters. They were alienated by the propaganda of the Media and Tech Oligarchs.

Same here. The corrupt article begins by falsely maintaining Trump’s guilt for something he didn’t do AND was just cleared of. Complete lie and proven FALSE narrative yet it continues as if there was never a sham trial unable to prove crimes against Trump again.

These people are psychos why should I read their babble?!

I stopped after the first sentence. Trump didn’t incite the riot. AP bias in the first sentence.

2 Vampirism falls under the ADA now. We paid that actress $1,374,852 from last years budget to mime Nazi so that she didnt have to struggle with her Non Reflective Image Syndrome.

Hardly. The opening sentence is "the big lie." It's defamatory. Trump should sue the writer for defamation.

The impeachment of a person who is no longer in office is like, so unconstitutional, AP. Like, that’s why most Republicans voted to acquit, AP. OMG the Constitution is, like, so hard!

A balanced AP article.

“After he incited a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last month ...” after that lead sentence the rest of the article is moot; when some one affirms guilt in the first sentence, it is not balanced - no matter what is written later.

The optics of the impeachment acquittal makes it likely that many casual
observers will conclude that Trump was cheated out of his reelection bid.

Democrats’ foolish insistence on focusing on the “reason” for Jan 6 helps reinforce opinion
that Trump won but Democrats’ cheated to deny him office.......and a lot of people were upset about it.

I hope Trump uses his influence to help us defeat Cheney.

McConnell is already using his influence to protect Cheney and defeat Trump.

The leader of the Republicans in the Senate could not permit the conviction of Donald Trump or he would face utter disintegration in his ranks. To maintain his power position over a coherent caucus, McConnell had to deliver an acquittal vote.

But to protect his power position in the future over the Republicans in the Senate, McConnell had to exert influence over the selection of senators at the primary contest level and at the re-election level. This he has traditionally done by granting and withholding campaign funds. Enter Donald Trump on the warpath.

Now McConnell must protect himself from Donald Trump as Trump attempts to purge the party of Rinos, especially those Rinos who betrayed him. To do this Trump must be discredited and marginalized which is exactly what McConnell undertook to do in his speech to the Senate when he held Trump "practically and morally" responsible for the capital riot.

McConnell has to appear to be a faithful representative of the base, so he voted to acquit but he had to appease his globalist donors so he stabbed Trump in the back on the floor of the Senate. A win-win for McConnell, a lose-lose for the party and for hope of a brighter future.

Always follow the money.
