Closing arguments at former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial were expected to get underway Saturday morning — with each side granted two hours to make their final case to the US Senate before an expected vote on the verdict later in the day.
But Day 5 started instead with House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) asking to subpoena records and call a witness sparking fierce debate with Trump defense lawyer Michael van der Venn.

Yes, they decided (the Dems, I think) that opening the door to witnesses was going to be opening a large can of worms that they didn’t want to open.
So they had the statement by that Republican Congresswoman about her call to Kevin McCarthy entered into the record and then no witnesses. On to closing arguments.

When it was on the House “case making”. this is in the Senate, requires a vote of the “jurors”. Which is doubly ridiculous as the “jurors” are said by the very same Lefties in complete cluelessness, to be the “victims” of the “insurrection”. Something which in a true Constitutionally valid “impeachment” would immediately invalidate the “Trial” portion. Judge and jurors are all victims of the supposed tried “crime”— this would never happen anywhere in this Country. And this is now confirmed farce.

I think it was planned as a way to get in this seemingly damaging testimony w/o having her or McCarthy under oath and w/o the defense being able to bring witness including Nancy Pelosi. Everything they do is planned—they had this testimony, true or not, ready to go and blindsided the defense. Scum of the earth. Hope the world at large figures this out from their actions and don’t just focus on Trump’s supposed phone call w/McCarthy who is likley in cahoots w/Liz Cheney and Pence.

The way leahy stated it, no new evidence can be entered in closing arguments but whatever was entered can be recapped in closing arguments
