I remember when the US was afraid Japan would spy on us thru Japanese made electronics. I still have appliances that are over 30 years old and work. China made crap lasts until the one year warrantee expires!

On purpose. It has become almost trivial science to make circuits die after a certian time. Lots of $ has been spent on component longevity. Sub in a handful of low level parts that fail on the average of 12 months, and the odds become 99% chance of dead circuits.
Throw away, buy another. The razorblade model.
