I remember the ‘89 freeze. Driving to work was bad. The roads were all ice.
I remember it also. A water pipe in the attic froze and burst, just before a house full of company arrived.
I left the Air Force in February 1973 from San Antonio Texas. There was an inch of ice on everything! Since I was from New York State (my destination) I was the only vehicle on the road because I had, perhaps, the only car in Texas with snow tires.
That was a bad one. We woke up on Nov. 15th, opening deer season and it was bad already. Every year we stayed for 2 weeks, then every weekend. Same year I stepped up to my knees crossing the Paluxy river. We hit a mail box coming home. We left a note and replaced it later :)
Vehicles were stranded going up a hill on 377. We got out and helped push. Someone in a jeep was charging 5.00 to pull vehicles up the hill and tried to run over my husband because he didn’t like our interference in his money making.
Good times! Good times!
