As Congress continues to work on another COVID relief bill, a group of Democratic Senators this week introduced an amendment that would provide $5 billion in aid to farmers of color.
"The Emergency Relief for Farmers of Color Act" would provide 4-billion dollars in direct relief payments to black, indigenous and Hispanic farmers to help them pay off outstanding USDA farm loan debts and related taxes. It would designate another $1 billion to fund support activities at USDA to quote "help root out systemic racism."
The bill also includes a provision that would provide up to 160-acres to existing and aspiring Black farmers.
The measure was praised by USDA.
"The bill is the culmination of hard work and collaboration among members of the Senate and House and new leadership at USDA who share a common purpose to end inequity in our food and agricultural systems," USDA Chief of Staff Katharine Ferguson said in a released statement. "It’s a bill crafted to address the immediate need for debt relief among those who have been marginalized and are hurting while also advancing long-term issues such as Heirs’ Property, tackling the root causes of discrimination via an Equity Commission, and investing in building back a new generation of farmers of color."
Argue with this and you’re labeled a racist and cancelled.
Just how many “farmers of color” do we have in this country?
I know of only two in our area. Both of em are highly independent...and conservative.
So if you are poor and white?
For some reason I’m thinking about the Northern Overexposure skit from the movie Stay Tuned. It was about a urban couple who goes to Alaska, complains about everything and then freezes to death.
I think all you have to do is just self identify as an aspiring black farmer and get 160 acres.
What if you grow sandias?
Where’s that unity they keep talking about?
It says black and Hispanic so you should be good in multiple ways.
What? No Mule?
Please note
“The bill also includes a provision that would provide up to 160-acres to existing and aspiring Black farmers”
EVERY person that is covered by this will each go out and register, and they each will get 160 acres of land, Free.
What land, Where?, State land? Federal Land?
Welcome to the START of reperations and REDISTRIBUTION of “Wealth”
What state voted for their land to be given away?
What State has released ALL state lands to the FEDS
What Federal land are they going to give away?
You can bet your butt cheeks if it is Federal land then it will be what is now the Closed Oil and Gas reserves of the Country, and that SHALL incluse cross state Waterways and WaterShed areas.
Hows that Uniparty going for us now?
Blessings
All the ones growing MJ legally or illegally!
Racist much?
>I think all you have to do is just self identify as an aspiring black farmer and get 160 acres.
Does this come with a mule? Asking for a friend.
And where does this 160 come from?
There’s not just that much arable farmland laying around. So are they going to buy/take from some white guy?
“The bill also includes a provision that would provide up to 160-acres to existing and aspiring Black farmers.”
Sweet...much better than 60 acres, but where is the mule?
I think we need to hear from the black farmers themselves. See what they think of being pandered to. Or are we seeing another Vilsack scandal who somehow finds himself on his way back to the NEW administration? Are there any LOSERS left from obozo’s administration untouched by the NEW administration?
Pray tell where does this 160 acres come from? How “black” does one have to be to qualify? Would Patrick Mahomes qualify?
So can I Identify as a FofC? or am I only allowed to ID as female?
“”So are they going to buy/take from some white guy?””
Why not? Think Rhodesia and what a success that’s been!
