Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games chief Yoshiro Mori is expected to resign Thursday after he sparked equal measures of outrage and blushes in Japan by claiming women talk too much in meetings.
The decision comes after a torrent of criticism from politicians to sports stars at a time the already delayed event is still under a cloud due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
Mori, an 83-year-old former prime minister known for public gaffes, allegedly told members of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) “board of directors meetings with many women take a lot of time.”
“When you increase the number of female executive members, if their speaking time isn’t restricted to a certain extent, they have difficulty finishing, which is annoying,” he said, as some members of the council reportedly laughed.
He then went on to compound his observation.
“Women are competitive,” Mori reportedly added. “When one person raises a hand, others think they need to speak up as well. That’s why everyone speaks.”
He later retracted his words at a news conference, acknowledging it was inappropriate – but when pressed on whether he really thought women talked too much, he replied: “I don’t listen to women that much lately, so I don’t know.” .

There was some comedian on youtube that called his mother trying to figure out what his wife wanted for her Birthday.

The apology sounds like it kinda backfired too.
I’ve gone Galt when it comes to working with women. Zero altruism for them. They are on their own. I’ve watch too many incompetent women use their “socializing skills” to work their way up. I’m a sixty year old programmer/mathematician. I’ve met only one woman mathematician who could pull her weight; I’ve never met a woman programmer that could.

I was working for a company in Tokyo, when the Prez called me into his office. Some new hire, an American woman, had had the utter gall to march into his office and demand that he put a stop to smoking in all company work spaces. He wanted to know what I thought.
I said to him, “This is Japan, not America. This is your company, not hers. Tell her to take a flying (fork) at a rolling doughnut.”
And he did.

Is this why I’ve always heard that nothing gets done at meetings?
I knew a couple. One was a Ukrainian woman who came to the U.S.A. after the fall of the Soviet Empire. She didn't talk much English, much of the time searching for the right English words for conversation. An excellent programmer, I asked what her job was back home. Nuclear physicist. I meekly said "Oh...". Another was a Chinese woman who had difficulty writing in English so I helped her in writing memos and such. The natives here in the U.S.A., not so many excellent woman programmers. Maybe a culture deficit here in how girls are taught.

It’s not a “gaffe”. He’s old school and old school talks the truth. I’ve had women bosses who would NOT shut the F Up at meetings.

I guess that means he is no Mori.
Without Mori to say stupid stuff out loud, the Olympics can now go on in complete safety and love. (/s)
