Twice failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sent a warning to Republican senators ahead of the first day of arguments in the Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump concluding that they — the jurors — will prove that they are “his co-conspirators” if they do not ultimately side with Democrats and convict him.
“If Senate Republicans fail to convict Donald Trump, it won’t be because the facts were with him or his lawyers mounted a competent defense,” Clinton said on Wednesday. “It will be because the jury includes his co-conspirators”:

Since the ‘jury’ was involved in the event, wouldn’t they be just a bit tainted? And since there is no judge, is this really a jury?

I can agree with the first part - the defense opening was so abysmal.
If it doesn’t improve, “the facts are with him” will be the fallback. But that isn’t without its risks.
In effect we’re looking at something like jury nullification, where republicans acquit Trump regardless of the qualify evidence presented on both sides during the Impeachment. If Republicans decide to acquit on the basis of just thinking the Rats need a good slapping and the quality of the prosecution case vastly exceeds the quality of the defense arguments, it’ll go down in the history books as a total farce in every direction.
It’s already a farce, but if the final outcome is that the show trial was totally political with neither side interested in reaching a verdict based on a fair, objective analysis of “just the facts, ma’am” and both sides were playing a tribal game, well.
One side putting feet up on chairs and doodling cartoons while the other side is full of theatrical gasps, sobs and tears, just makes it look like NOBODY is taking the process seriously.
This might be a show trial but the reason Impeachment exists at all within the definition of government is to provide a defense against any situation where a POTUS goes so far off the reservation that the only other route back to sanity involves insurrection, assassination and civil war.
Is it too much to ask that politicians stop treating impeachment like it’s a game?

This sounds like the old witch trials. A person is charged with being a witch. At the trial if they defend themselves, that proof of them being a witch. If they don’t, the prosecutor will prove they are a witch with false evidence.
The way the democrats are acting, it’s like they are experiencing the biggest fear of their life. It makes you wonder what they are actually afraid of. Being exposed as traitors is most likely.
If the accused dies while being immersed in water for 4 minutes then he is innocent, while if he survives he is guilty and shall be hanged. If he survives the hanging....
