South Africa has put its roll-out of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on hold after a study showed "disappointing" results against its new Covid variant.
Scientists say the strain accounts for 90% of new Covid cases in South Africa.
The study, involving around 2,000 people, found the vaccine offered "minimal protection" against mild and moderate cases of Covid-19.
South Africa has received 1m doses of the AstraZeneca jab and was due to start vaccinating people next week.
Speaking at an online news conference on Sunday, South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said his government would wait for further advice on how best to proceed with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in light of the findings. The trial was carried out by the University of the Witwatersrand but has not yet been peer reviewed.

I read this story overnight and noted this comment:
“He said that the study [2,000 people] had not been able to investigate the vaccine’s efficacy in preventing more serious infections, as participants had an average age of 31 and so did not represent the demographic most at risk of severe symptoms from the virus”
The study hasn’t been peer reviewed either.
In the meantime the Chinese are demanding an investigation by the WHO into how the virus came to China from Europe and the USA. I’m sure the Biden administration will be all over this blatant propaganda effort.
The West should have pressed China harder last year on what happened in the Wuhan lab/market. Trump has the right idea, but had no support whatsoever from Europe.
Now we have evidence in a number of western societies that COVID-19 was very much a Q3/2019 virus - not 2020 - but the evidence in China has long since been destroyed.

It has been known for quite some time that research was being carried out in North Carolina and in Canada on bat coronaviruses, and that at least in one case scientists illegally transported material between Canada and the US-supported gain of function research in Wuhan.
The military sporting event in Wuhan in October, with thousands of participants from all over the world, could have imported the virus to China.
Chinese origin remains the most probable story, but it is not the only one.
Neither does the flu vax some years.
But it’s still offered.
Seems like some protection would be better than none.
How can they press them on the Wuhan lab when Fauci and the American government were helping to fund the research?

Not only that, but Fauci’s office paid millions to the Wuhan lab and transfered gain of function research on auch viruses being here over there once we forced a pause on it here.
Moderna, at least, is claiming theirs is effective with the new strains. I think it’s been claimed about Pfizer too.
Then why aren’t we using HCQ and Ivermectin for prophylaxis?
RSA’s black leadership hasn’t been paid the customary commission for using this particular vendor’s product over the competition. The CDC’s incompetence is partly to do with it being 1/3 black. Imagine a 100% black CDC. That’s RSA for you.

Bingo! That was my very first thought, too. They weren’t paid anywhere near enough to get a “AZ works!” conclusion from RSA.
Depends on the potential downside, of course.
All I know is that since people are different, choices for patients and their medical providers are awesome things.
The biggest problem, and it’s a dire one, is that trust is the coin of the realm and this WuFlu charlie foxtrot has left Big Med, Big Pharma, and Deep State flat busted.
It’s impossible to have informed consent when institutions get caught lying.

Yep - and they will find that the virus originated in the State that went heaviest for President Trump during the elections.
Add the coming military purge and ere long the military units will have leadership photos with Mao and Xi in top row and the “President” and others lower down.
