Can’t be. Biden said he had a plan. You mean Biden could not stop the variant from entering the country?

Biden’s plan was to say whatever they told him to so he could be elected.
After that..... who cares?

B.1.1.7 is interesting because it builds on Covid's primary strength-it's transmissibility. The UK is reporting that this variant is 50-70% more transmissible than the original strain which is already highly transmissible clearly.
This greater transmissibility results from a greater affinity for the ACE2 receptor which is found on our cell surfaces.
It seems reasonable to conclude that B.1.1.7 will have a lower infectious dose. As such, it will be even more persistent on inanimate objects (fomites) such shopping cart handles.
We must remember that "persistence" is a key metric of a nuclear, chemical, biological weapon's effectiveness.
The longer a weapon can persist on a surface, the more effective it is. B.1.1.7 is a more effective weapon.
What is more al;arming to me is that B.1.1.7 has the ability to exchange genetic material with variant P.1.
There is evidence that P.1 can reinfect people who have already had the original Covid19.
It is my opinion that we should not "poo poo" this.

My family had Covid in late December/early January. Does that offer any protection against the new strain, or are they completely different? I know people say you can get Covid again, but I’m wondering if antibodies mitigate the severity of a subsequent infection.

I’ve seen several articles about people catching the new strains after recovering from earlier ones. Probably best to err on the side of caution.

Antibodies might help to make symptoms of a new strain less severe.
