Over 2 million shots administered in a day!
There is still room to increase the rate of administration, if supply can keep up. Maybe we can get up to 3 million shots per day, like we peaked with flu shots last September. As retail pharmacies start getting supply and administering shots, that gives a lot of additional capacity.
As we are going, we are administering more shots then are being supplied, and we are chewing through the inventory on hand, that had been reserved for second shots.
Now we are down to an inventory of about 18 million on hand, and going a few million per week into the hole. At these rates, we could get through February before coming up short on any second shots.
By then, The Johnson & Johnson (single shot) should be approved. Also, the Government has already approved giving second shots a few weeks late, if needed (I think 42 days from the first).
And I won’t get the vaccine. My Vitamin C is about as effective for colds.

Well, many of us appreciate these daily posts. And I definitely appreciate the post 1 analysis, deriving that day’s stats, that the opening poster took the time to compute for us. Props to the OP.

webheart: Its just a convenient quick hit to maintain our community’s situational awareness, on how the vaccine program is going. Not time consuming. Participation is voluntary.
We all want the lockdowns to end, but some have to make financial/business decisions, based on timing the re-opening. Vaccinations are the surest tool to measure that objectively. They will force down case numbers, deaths and hospitalizations; pretty predictably.
Basically, next month (March) the hospital COVID wards should be emptying out. Nursing Home residents have pretty much all had their first shots, and are wrapping up seconds in a week or two. Once about 50 million over 65’s have gotten their second shots, deaths from COVID should drop to insignificantly low levels - far below anything justifying lockdowns. Call it April, to be sure.
At that point, a flood of new vaccine supply - Johnson & Johnson, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Novavax will open up availability to pretty much everyone who wants it, by the end of June. Game over.

A: Protection from the disease.
The J&J vaccine is from killed viruses. The others are all mRNA types. Killed virus vaccine is a single dose, should work better, be easier to store and provide longer immunity.
Why would I consent to an mRNA vaccine?
The JJ vaccine slips genetic code into a modified adenovirus.
And then, just like with mrna vaccines, the vaccine recipient uses the code to make the spike proteins which the body than produces antibodies against.
Very little difference. Except with an adenovirus transport they are expecting less allergic responses.
