George P. Shultz, one of only two people to serve the United States in four Cabinet-level posts and a major force in economic and foreign policy in two Republican administrations, died Feb. 6 at his home in Stanford, Calif. He was 100.
The Hoover Institution at Stanford University, where Dr. Shultz was long affiliated after stepping down as secretary of state in 1989, announced the death but did not give a cause.
Dr. Shultz’s prodigious inside knowledge of the U.S. government was rivaled by few figures in recent memory, and his soft-spoken, cerebral manner obscured his strong conservative views about the wisdom of keeping spending under control, limiting government regulation and vigorously confronting terrorists.

RIP!
Among other things, Shultz was a WW II Marine Corps combat vet.
RIP
R.I.P.
Among the many insightful quotations attributed to Schultz is this one:
“Negotiations are a euphemism for capitulation if the shadow of power is not cast across the bargaining table.”
Wow. RIP.
Wow he made it to 100. RIP.
I liked Schultz and he was steadfast guy.
Truly good man who served Reagan well. One of the few good ones in Washington.
Oldest living former Cabinet members is now Henry Kissinger who turns 98 in May.
“announced the death but did not give a cause”
Maybe it was he was 100 years old?
RIP.
Good Genes + Fulfilling Career Choice + Loving Wife + Good Health Insurance = Long Life.
RIP, Secretary Schultz, and sincere condolences to your family.
George Schultz was, IMHO, one of the last good “conventional” Republicans to serve a President - certainly the best known and one of the most effective. He ably served Reagan, and was, as the article stated, a steadfast conservative. Yes, of course he was a pol and he played some of those games, but I think that he did it because he had to and not because he wanted to do so - he wanted to serve, to help steer policy in a direction that benefitted the United States. His kind of service, patriotism and quite brilliance will be missed.
RIP George Shultz. He made it to the century mark. Good for him.
Are you sure it didn't have anything to do with that Princeton Tiger tattoo?
In 1987, according to the Associated Press, when asked why he was not running for president, Shultz said, “As far as I’m concerned, I’m afraid the country is not ready for a president who might have a tiger tattooed on his rear end.″
“Oldest living former Cabinet members is now Henry Kissinger who turns 98 in May.”
Horrible legacy. Unrepentant as well.
Perhaps we must also consider a virtuous life and God’s blessings. It often helps.
Lol! I had no idea. He sounded proud of it, though.
A vestige of his ‘Wild’ days.
Wasn’t he supposed to testify in the Theranos thing?
Absolutely. I always remind myself to be thankful for what God has bestowed upon me. Perhaps Mr. Shultz was the same way. He certainly had a good work ethic.
