Conservatives in and out of California were giving each other digital high-fives this week as the Recall Gavin 2020 efforts broke the 1.4 million milestone, less than 100,000 signatures away from being successful. Except, that’s not exactly true, and careless “conservative” publications like the Daily Caller are spreading this misinformation.
A recall election of California Governor Gavin Newsom will be triggered by 1,495,709 validated signatures, or 12% of the previous total votes cast for the office. In 2003, the recall challenge against Governor Gray Davis yielded well over 1.6 million signatures, but around 15% of them were invalidated. In the end, they were able to count 1,356,408 valid signatures, which was still enough to secure the recall.
That was 2003. We can and should expect to need a higher percentage of “overage” in 2021 for multiple reasons. First and foremost, there are currently efforts to “fake” signatures or sign multiple recall petitions. These efforts, quietly being put into effect by private allies of the Governor, are intended to draw a sense of complacency and quash momentum. If we’re led to believe we have enough signatures, the enthusiasm to push for more diminishes.
Another reason is the aforementioned celebratory stance of many conservatives on social media as well as articles such as the one on Daily Caller yesterday:
Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom is less than 100,000 signatures away as of Thursday from being forced into a recall special election. California state law stipulates that a sitting governor must face a recall special election if 12% of voters from the previous gubernatorial election, in this case 1.5 million California residents, sign a petition to recall the governor. At the time of publication, 1.4 million Californians have signed a petition to recall Newsom.
The article makes no mention of the need to validate signatures. In fact, it notes that they should have enough signatures by next week. This is false. There is almost zero chance they will have the 1.9+ million signatures necessary to overcome the number of invalid petitions and still have over the threshold.
Will we likely get to the mark? Yes. There are six weeks left. They’ve been averaging around 100,000 signatures per week, so they’re on pace to get to 2 million. But if too many “conservatives” are spreading disinformation to slow down momentum through complacency, then the efforts could fall short.
Spread the word. To recall Gavin Newsom, we need 1.5 million VALID petition signatures. That means we have until March 17 to collect 400k-600k, not the 100K that’s being reported. Keep fighting. Don’t get complacent.
california needs to quit hitting electoral mulligans, and be forced to live with the idiotic choices they keep making.
Just write a check and use Dominon voting machines, you can get whatever out come you like.
Can we vote twice? Seriously, signed on an in person petition as I heard online doesn’t count? Anyway, signed around a year ago.
No validation for voting. Why validate for recall?
“First and foremost, there are currently efforts to “fake” signatures or sign multiple recall petitions. These efforts, quietly being put into effect by private allies of the Governor, are intended to draw a sense of complacency and quash momentum.”
That certainly is not fair for people to sign fake signatures to a petition in an effort to sabotage the petition.
bttt
funny, now the left are all about validating signatures-
Especially when filling in the County block.
Remember those “sit ins” in the deep south in the 60’s? Blacks and whites would descend on “whites only” establishments and order food, etc. The cops would then come and round them up. But they won in the end.
You want change in California< Do the same thing, only these will be “no mask” sit in’s. It’s one thing for individual people like me to do it. When a large group decends on lots of restaurants and goes in and sits down - sans masks - and wants to be served, it becomes news.
Then it becomes an organig movement, empowering those that were afraid before.
That’s the kind of thing that will end this.
God, we ****ed up the attack on election fraud; we let the loonies lead the charge.
Everytime there is a recall petition Dims cheat. They need to get at least 50% more than the required signatures to have a chance to get past the disqualification process. Take this to the grass roots precinct level and go door to door.
The “loonies” lead because nobody else did due to the bipartisan nature of the coup. The state GOPs and executive branch gave Dems a mulligan to defeat Trump and then stonewalled genuine investigation of election fraud. Our elected reps were AWOL for two months while the steal was cemented. None of that was accidental.
I have no idea what you mean by that obtuse metaphor. This was a staunchly Republican state for a long time. Deep within the idiot electorate of this state is a narrow stream of common sense that pops up every once in a while, such as the largely-conservative outcome of November’s ballot measures. So if the voters will do the nation the favor of strangling newsom’s national career in the cradle, they should be encouraged, not criticized
“But they won in the end.”
We don’t have the ACLU and the Communist party backing us.
“hitting a mulligan” is not an obtuse metaphor — and I’m sorry that you apparently don’t know what “obtuse” means.
so speaketh the head looney.
So, who are Californians going to replace him with? And what chance would they have against the Marxist legislature?
well, if you listen to the guy that doesn’t play golf, we should just assume that dethroning one socialist boob for another socialist boob is a net positive thing.
