Total Doses Distributed: 57,489,675
Number of People Receiving 1 or More Doses: 27,905,197
Number of People Receiving 2 Doses: 6,926,050
(Excerpt) Read more at covid.cdc.gov ...
Doses Distributed: 1.55 million (an OK day)
People Receiving 1st Dose: 750,000 (a bit weak, below the goal pace of one million/day)
People Receiving 2nd Dose: 489,000 (strong day)
Obviously, there are almost 30 million doses distributed and not given yet. So there is no shortage, but problems with administering the vaccine.
BTW, I wander how many were wasted?
Even many of the good red states are holding on giving the first injection to make sure there is enough for those of us who have had the first injection to have the second.
What we are seeing re age 75 +- 10 years, the people across the country (friends, relatives and just people, we know) are doing what ever they can do legally to be vaccinated.
That high demand for vaccination has along with the second shot requirement has basically put new vaccinations on hold until the second shot is administered to the 25 million plus of us who have gotten the first shot.
One young woman RN, we know on the east coast gave over 200 injections in one day, and so did her peers. She couldn’t even hold a pencil the day after in her right hand, her shot driving hand
My 4 county’s update on Corona Virus :
The average age at death is 76, with an age spectrum ranging from 43 years to more than 95, the counties said on their websites.
Fifty-six percent of deaths were males. Broken down by ethnicity, 42% were Hispanic/Latinx, 42% were non-Hispanic white, 7% were Asian, 4% were “other,” and 5% were unknown.
The two deaths reported Tuesday were males over the age of 65. One died out of the county, officials said.
So it appears that the age group of 70+ and the health care people are logical targets for the first round of vaccines.
Others, who have received first doses may have to wait longer, but no one will have to wait beyond the 42-day time period allowed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the two organizations said in a news release.
For later....
“there are almost 30 million doses distributed and not given yet.”
As Grampa Dave noted, most places wait until they have two shots on hand, before giving the first (which was the policy recommended by Operation Warp Speed). So there now are about 22 million doses distributed and not yet administered, and about 21 million people who got a first dose, but not yet their second.
The Biden Admin has been talking about changing that policy, and has been encouraging States and Localities to just go ahead and trust in future supply, and give out first doses without having a second on hand. CDC now says that its OK to give second shots two or three weeks late.
“put new vaccinations on hold until the second shot is administered”
It does seem that second shots are growing more rapidly than first shots. The ratio in this last report was about 3 first shots, for every 2 second shots - the highest ratio yet for second shots. First shots are barely, (or not quite) making their daily goal of one million, on average).
Let me do some math
+ Total Doses Distributed: 57,489,675
- Number of People Receiving 1 or More Doses: 27,905,197
- Number of People Receiving 2 Doses: 6,926,050
57489674-27905197-6926050=22657828 Number of doses on hand.
27905197-6926050= 20979147 Number of people with only one dose, waiting for second.
22657828-20979147=1,678,681 Number of doses unaccounted for (sort of).
First of all, saving the second dose for everyone is a folly. I would agree to save some in case of disruptions, but for every one, that’s stupid!
Secondly, that still leaves 1,678,681 doses which should be used but are not!
I am wandering what’s happening with those?
Waiting for something? Lost, stolen, wasted, destroyed?

Nearly 10% of the United States population has received at least their first dose of the vaccine. Another 3 vaccines (Novavax, Johnson & Johnson, and Oxford/AstraZeneca) set to be approved shortly, providing a huge influx of supply.
COVID-19 is going to be dead this summer. By the end of this year, they’ll be reporting each individual new case with an in-depth profile on the person. At least for the US, SARS-CoV-2’s goose is about to be cooked.
THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP! Thank you for having the foresight to invest in these vaccines! And for negotiating to have them produce doses during phase 3 clinical trials - as has NEVER been done before because of the HUGE financial risk!
Other than intermittent posts* here on FR, is there an archive anywhere where one can find the numbers posted each day by the CDC? I am trying to graph the data, but there are gaps. Interpolation tends to minimize the roller coaster effect of weekends, which I really do not want to do.
*BeauBob: That is not a complaint! These threads are not your “job” and I appreciate you posting what you can, despite the naysayers.
Part of my intent is that I simply like to analyze graphs of all sorts of data. I’m also trying to learn to use Libre Office’ charts & graphs functions. (It’s kind of a PITA, but half of that is me just being unfamiliar with their format and slow at learning it. Most of the rest of the grief is simply the tedium of entering the data manually, field by field. I’d certainly never be happy with a job as an accountant or data entry specialist.)
If I can get a link to all or most of the national** data, if someone here would like to post the graphs (I don’t have a good way to do so), I’d be happy to work with them.
**Looking at individual states could be interesting too, but, I just don’t have the time...
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, that’s BeauBo!!!
If someone would compile a list of quantity of 1st shots administered each day, that’d save me some minutes...
