MIDLAND, South Dakota — On the day President Biden was inaugurated in Washington, D.C., Laurie Cox wept. They weren't tears of joy.
News had spread that morning that the incoming president would be pulling the plug on the controversial Keystone XL pipeline. For Cox, the owner of the two-story Stroppel Hotel in Midland, South Dakota, news of a shutdown also meant her business would take a major hit.
"I had a real gut-sinking feeling and was watching little snips of the news and Facebook to see what was going to happen after the inauguration," she told the Washington Examiner.

Why have a pipeline when you can reduce carbon dioxide by Shipping oil by truck or train or around the world in giant ships?
Exactly.....the first person they should be going after is Thune. Nothing but a POS, RINO, GOPe scumbag. I realize that recall is not possible. But, a Vote of Confidence, or lack thereof, would do some damage. Especially if it is resoundingly negative and the folks of South Dakota, publicly let their US Senators know that they have no faith in them. It’d be interesting to see what Rounds and Thune would do. Hopefully, quit and move out of the state.

The irony is that the “justification” for this action is that it will somehow make for a better environment. However, not one reporter has asked Biden/Harris et al to back up this statement given that the oil will continue to be shipped via Warren Buffet’s trains, a huge megadonor to their campaign and the elites in DC who can feel good about themselves in their green hypocrisy.
It is an absolute fact that the trains are far worse for the environment than a pipeline. It is an absolute fact that spills and disasters associated with rail transportation are far worse than the pipeline.
If only we had a media......
In summary, we are killing jobs and energy security for something that would actually improve the environment and safety on both sides of the border and the only person who benefits is a campaign donor oligarch.
Didn’t Biden promise to represent the little guy and the environment? This fails on both counts. It also hurts our energy security and our neighbor.

Well, the one thing that is lost, not by folks on here, but the liberal and environmental lemmings that cheer this decision is the fact that the oil will still get to where it’s supposed to go.
Only now, it’s transported by Warren Buffet’s trains. Trains that derail. Trains that have cars that breach and spill oil everywhere, instead of being able to stop the flow and prevent major damage. Trains that cost about 5x more than a pipeline.
And, on a side note, the whole pipeline protests were not about the pipeline itself, at least not in the beginning. It was about that tribe getting ripped off of large sums of money. Money that was used to buy a very, very small sliver of land from the tribe to connect the pipeline. Only the money never reached the tribe. Somehow, some folks apparently disappeared with it. And even more interesting, was all the violence and criminal activity that went unreported among the protestors and dead bodies that were found, apparently.
What foreign government or private contractor would ever go into business with the United States government without being paid up front? We're now a Post-Electoral Third World country and are going to be treated like one.
Projects like these are all going to be bonded, likely through a Swiss bank, and that much more expensive.
Cant the Governor there sue the feds for breach of contract or something?.

The States need to tell the fed to get bent. This is a State issue, not a federal issue.
