California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law on Friday that extends eviction protections through the end of June.

Tenants who qualify for the protections will still owe their rent, they just can't be evicted for not paying all of it.

Tenants who qualify for the protections will still owe their rent, they "just can't be evicted for not paying all of it. "

Which many have decided to ignore.

I have several friends who have tenants that have not lost a day of work but, have simply decided to stop paying.

Meanwhile, my friends continue to make the mortgage payments.

The landlords in CA are once again about to be financially gang raped.

Will they be evicted when the banks foreclose on the owner?

“will still owe their rent, they just can’t be evicted for not paying all of it.”

...that’s hilarious. If they voted for it, live with it. On the other hand, with the rampant voter fraud in the POTUS election, I would think that that’s how these ass holes get elected over and over in blue states.

Not a good time to be a landlord. I suppose you can sell it out from under them when their lease expires.

Mortgage companies bribe governor.

Mortgage companies foreclose properties.

Mortgage companies evict tenants.

Mortgage companies sell distressed property for big profits.

Great scam—especially if you keep selling the asset to other entities at each step along the way...makes it really hard to connect the bribe to the other steps.

“will still owe the rent.”

Then what is the incentive to pay the rent later?

Difficult to add up the months’ rent totals as one big amount later.

What is the endgame (along with the building owner going broke)?

This is like the illegal aliens told to come back to have a court appearance at a certain date before a judge but on their honor are allowed to leave just for today. Then on to the Dem voter registration, welfare signup, and their new Section 8 free house or apartment. Passing taxpayers on their way to their jobs.

He’ll try to make this permanent I bet by keeping it ongoing and trying to make it a perceived norm.

"Will they be evicted when the banks foreclose on the owner?"

I suspect not. Newsom's socialist Kalifornia legislature will then pass a law making the banks responsible for maintaining the properties with no rental payments. Small local banks will shut down without that income.

...Tenants who qualify for the protections will still owe their rent, they "just can't be evicted for not paying all of it. "...

I don't know if this has passed or not, but there was a move afoot in California to convert all of the back rent owed to ordinary consumer debt instead of back rent at the end of the crisis.

This is even worse than most of us think because a tenant can not be evicted for "consumer debt" only back rent.

All of this stemming from a FAKE fatality data rate for Covid back in April of 2020... yes, that far back. Uniformly, using the fraudulent 95% false positive PCR testing (which WHO removed as valid two days after Nov. 3rd election, btw— it is “invalid” now).

Here is hot, live mic at Covid WH Commission which Pence ran and repeated the BS lies with Fauci and all the rest— the USC study (available online, but not then... see?); John Roberts running his loud mouth of the trial’s results:

“Just prior to President Trump’s daily Coronavirus press briefing on 4/20/2020, a Golden State Times hot mic catches FOX News’ John Roberts having a discussion with NY Times photographer, Doug Mills, talking about how the death toll from the virus isn’t anywhere near what the media is making it out to be & that the establishment’s reaction to it may therefore be just a hoax.”

No. The bank will give them $3000-5000 to move out. It’s called cash for keys and they have been doing it for years.

“Will they be evicted when the banks foreclose on the owner?”

I have offered a landlord a cash offer to get out of property he has lost touch with mortgage to get out of his problems with no loss and been refused. I have offered to make his payments to the bank for rent credit and been refused. When a rental property goes to forcloser you are dealing with people without a clue or a dollar, as a tenate...run away quickly.

Wait until the current tenants try to rent somewhere else in the future. They’ll be paying a 12 month deposit up front. They’ve also screwed over the next tenants since landlords will have ironclad protections against this sort of government intervention in business.

Doesn’t this just let tenants get deeper and deeper in arrears for the inevitable day while putting landlords into bankruptcy in the meantime? Why didn’t we give all those billions we gave to foreign countries to the landlords to catch up the rent? Why? What we are doing is just evil.

When Gavin seizes the properties and doles them out to his cronies they will absolutely be evicted.

One step closer to controlling all private property.

When the state can dictate what a citizen can and cannot do with their own property and tax and mandate prices for the same who really owns the property?

Our founders would be very angry......

Remember all the threads and angst about imminent domain a decade ago? Look at how far we have come since..... at least those in favor had the argument that hundreds or thousands would benefit. We are now down to the point where the state can effectively seize the property of one for the benefit of another. The commerce of an owner and a single tenant is now mandated by the state.
