They miss the bigger point.
Trump isn’t trying to knife the GOP. That may or may not be the side effect, but clearly he must really 100% believe the steal really happened if he is going to use that as his defense. That’s big. It either means he is nuts, or that he is right, and either way, he is so sure he is right that he is willing to destroy himself to convey that message.
To be quite honest, I’m not sure how anyone can look at the available evidences and *not* think the election was 100% stolen.
If we observed an election in a third world country that had the same pattern of irregularities as ours did, the State Department would be demanding that the results be thrown out and the election reran under tight supervision.
He’s not going to run again anyway. The threat of preventing that is empty.
He wants to get the evidence out.
I hope.
Now that the Democrats control the Senate, and Leahy is illegally going to preside over the trial, what makes people think that he'll even allow a defense based on voter fraud to be brought forward? Nothing about either impeachment was legal, but they went forward anyway, and I could see Leahy claiming that he will not allow anything to do with voter fraud claims being a part of this impeachment trial. Democrats illegally change the rules all the time, and are allowed to get away with it.
