There was someone here saying that the burned homes and cars (but not trees) were evidence of space lasers. I calculated the power requirements and such space lasers cannot exist even for nuclear-powered satellites. But the poster was convinced, didn't matter what the facts were.

First off, I don’t know if what you said is correct. If such power existed, I doubt that YOU would know about it.
