Biden presidency 'may herald new start for Saudi-Iranian relations'
Guardian ^ | Patrick Wintour

Posted on 02/01/2021 5:14:09 AM PST by Eleutheria5

An opportunity for a new beginning between Saudi Arabia and Iran has been presented by Joe Biden’s presidency, two leading Saudi and Iranians close to their diplomatic leaderships are proposing in an article in the Guardian today.

The article is co-written by Abdulaziz Sager, the Saudi Arabian chairman and founder of the Gulf Research Center, and Hossein Mousavian, a former senior Iranian diplomat and now a nuclear specialist based at Princeton University.

Their proposals are the fruit of a track 2, or backchannel initiative that has been under way privately for months.

Their discussions are one of the few forms of private dialogue under way between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and to the extent that their discussions have been approved by serving diplomats in both capitals the initiative may signal a new willingness on both sides to the use the advent of the Biden presidency to explore an end to the years long enmity between the two countries.

In an interview with the reformist Iranian newspaper Etemaad last week, the Iranian foreign minister, Javad Zarif, hinted at a new approach. He also accepted that opportunities for dialogue with Riyadh had been missed, adding that it was imperative that Iran was the pioneer in this enterprise.

He said that “we have no territorial claim or interest in accessing the natural resources of other regional countries; therefore, it is Iran that can initiate this effort from a position of wealth. We shouldn’t wait for others.”

1. If this initiative has been underway for months, it probably pre-dates the election, yet Biden gets all the credit.

2. It is probably more BS Iranian and Saudi style, but leave it to leftards to look at the ME through rose- colored glasses. It's what gave us the Arab sproing, the implosion of Syria and Libya, and the border war with the Houthi. Sunnis and Shiites have been warring for centuries. Part of that warfare has been disposable alliances against Israel, the British, the Mongols, the Crusaders, etc. And here comes another one, and here comes the Guardian with a bowl of diarrhea, believing it's chocolate pudding and lapping it up with a smile on its corporate face. 3. Trump was not so naive as to take this development on face value, but Joebama sure is. Oh boy! Moderate Muslims are coming out of the woodwork now, just 'cause Orange Man Bad is gone.

So, the colluding countries that brought us 9/11 are being brought to together again by the Biden administration?

What could go wrong.

The Saudi/Iranian issue goes back much farther than, say the problems they have made/keep going with Israel. They fundamentally hate each other. The closest analog in Western culture would be the split between the Catholics and Protestants. And, they will fight wars over that until they evolve beyond it. Call it another 300 years.

Because it’s a significant story, even if it is BS. We should know about it in order to counter it.

The totally confused o deliberately [ushing misinformation Guardian is spewing out garbage as usual.
It's President Trump has facilitated, the greatest peace treaties in the Middle East between Arab countries and Israel.
The terrorist Iranian regime exits only to destabilize other countries through terrorism, bombings, assassinations etc.
The Saudi's know exactly how evil the Iranian terrorist regime is.

Any minute now, that National Treasure guy is going to burst into the oval office and tear apart the Steadfast Desk to find another clue, and Joe’s nap will be ruined.

Hossein Mousavian, a former senior Iranian diplomat and now a nuclear specialist based at Princeton University.

Why is the person allowed in the United States of America?

Does anyone else think there’s something not right about a former Iranian diplomat who’s now a nuclear specialist at an American college? Spy?

This is basically BS covered with chocolate frosting. Israel and Saudi have formed alliances to thwart Iran. Saudi Arabia and Iran are in a contest ver who will be the big fish n the pond . If Iran goes nuclear Saudi Arabia gets Nukes. Don’t forget Saudi funded the Pakistani nuke program on the condition that they get nukes if they want them. Obama backed Iran.
