Chicago’s spike in carjackings has some residents so rattled that aldermen are working with private security to make sure residents can pump gas in peace.
South Side Ald. Stephanie Coleman, 16th, said one of her residents was carjacked at a gas station on Christmas Day, which inspired the idea to hire local security to provide a safe place to fill up “because people are afraid to get gas no matter what time of day of being carjacked.”
“It hit home for me,” Coleman said. She’s since worked with local gas stations and Kates Security Services to set up times when people can fill up. The Citgo on 63rd Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, and the Shell at 55th and Halsted streets are secured as part of Operation Safe Pump for an hour each day, Coleman said.
“It’s really just to do some positive loitering around gas stations with men, particularly making sure women can get gas safely,” Sawyer said. He added: “People are legitimately scared to get gas even during daylight because of the rash in carjackings.”
Carjackings in Chicago rose about 135%, to 1,415 in 2020 from 603 in 2019, according to a Tribune review of police information. The 2020 tally was the highest figure recorded here since 2001, when Chicago logged only slightly more with 1,422, the city statistics show. A top police official last week said there have been at least 166 carjackings in Chicago in 2021. Police have made 108 arrests, but 58 of those arrestees have been charged only with misdemeanor trespass to vehicle, Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan previously said.

Note the Soros-funded DA doesn’t even charge the criminals when the police do arrest them. Start with lower charges and then plead out to probation. Back in the street to rob more.
A lot of this current atmosphere in Chicago reminds me of Rio de Janeiro. You live in gated communities, with guards walking around with shotguns. You go to banks that have multiple guards inside and around the parking lot. You walk into a protective zone shopping center, where guards show a presence with weapons. It would be a normal thing to fill up at a station in Rio that has a armed guard walking the perimeter.
Most experts say that Rio today has around 90,000 to 95,000 private guards. This is the path of Chicago in the next decade.
Oh, the irony!
Regards,
Chicago sounds like the perfect place for a family vacation. /sarcasm
Arm everyone and shoot carjackers. Dead.

It seems neither Alderwoman Coleman nor Mr. Sawyer understand much about English syntax.
Aside from that, I do find it amusing that they find that having men "positively loiter" is the solution.
I wonder: Would a 5' 2" unarmed woman who "identifies" as a man be sufficient?

You can’t short Didndus. They’ll charge YOU with a crime.
Best way to end this? Have a couple of would-be carjackers eat lead. Criminals do not fear cops, they fear citizens with guns.

It reminds me of Mad Max.
“Operation Safe Pump” sounds like the name of the local ‘no tell’ motel.
Where’s Groot?
Maybe they should have plexiglas around the pumps.
Your Smartphone should be designed to shut off the ignition.
I do miss Secondcitycop blog which was shut down in the recent online conservative purge. You got the real info vs. the postdigested press releases
One of the most irritating parts of the trip was the toll booths on the Illinois toll roads. I would wait in line, sometimes as long as a half hour to put a few coins in the baskets, and then have to dodge 80 mph traffic for a few miles only to wait again minutes later. My revenge is simple. In that entire time, I have never bought gasoline along these roads in Illinois. They maybe can force my coins away from me, but they don't get my dollars for road taxes. They have clearly lost money on me.
The worst part of the trip is Chicago. Stopping is unsafe, and gas prices go up as much as a half dollar within the city's toll roads. That's, of course, the easiest to avoid. There are only about 50 miles of it. It takes very little planning to avoid fuel purchases in all of Illinois.
Will this be in place while you charge your mandatory Prius for a few hours? Bonus - you don’t even get to hear the perp drive away.
Yep, just an obscure and DISCREDITED concept, I guess, but if you put felons IN JAIL, then it might be safer for those who are not felons to move about (or even sleep at night).
Anything to do with the fact that criminals were given a free pass last summer, defunding the police, arresting police for doing their job and the canonization of BLM?
In less unlightened times, that was referred to as a pit stop on the African 500.
