The Hon. Arthur F. Engoron is a Justice of the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the First Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the seat in 2016. Previously, Justice Engoron was elected to serve as a judge for the New York County Civil Court in 2003 and was re-elected to the Civil Court in 2012. During his tenure on the Civil Court bench, he was appointed to serve as an Acting Justice of the New York County Supreme Court in 2013 by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York.
He is a registered Democrat.
Justice Engoron received his B.A. from Columbia University. He went on to earn his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
He began his legal career in private practice in 1979 when he joined the law firm Olwine, Connelly, Chase, O’Donnell, and Weyher as an associate. Two years later, Engoron then became an associate at Pryor, Cashman, Sherman, and Flynn, where he practiced until 1983.
In 1991, he began his tenure as principal law clerk to the Hon. Marin Schoenfeld, Justice of the New York County Supreme Court. Engoron held that position until his election to the Civil Court.
His memberships have included the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York County Lawyers Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Brehon Law Society, the Columbia College Alumni Association, the New York University Law Alumni Association, the Jewish Lawyers Guild, the Council on Judicial Administration, and the New York Women’s Bar Association. Engoron was also the chairperson of the Civil Court Committee.
He authored a manual for small claims arbitrators that was published in 1998.
