“IsnâÂÂt it cute the way Britain still thinks they are relevant?”
This report is about the forthcoming G7 meeting - and the UK is a member of the G7 along, with the US and five other nations. We all know that.
Tony Blair is an ex-socialist Prime Minister, disliked by a significant percentage of the population.
However, what he is suggesting is likely to be the only way to open up international travel in the future.
Since a classic passport is already needed, adding functionality to include a vaccination record is an obvious option.
The political issue for the UK (as I am sure you know) is that while we have a very high percentage of the population with passports (far greater than the US), it is not a legal requirement to carry identity in any form in public and we have no universal identity scheme or card.
Since we are at the leading edge of vaccine development & deployment worldwide, it’s very likely other nations will look to see how the UK moves on. That makes us relevant, whatever your actual views are on the plague.
