Depends on what you are calling a case and what deaths you are attributing to the virus. The Truth left town about the same time the virus got here. Cases have been counted to maximize the number of reported cases. Deaths have been attributed to the virus in such a way as to maximize that number, too. It is already starting to change. Started about a week ago, oddly enough.

The vast majority of Covid deaths are occurring in hospital settings of some kind, especially in ICUs, with ample evidence to support the final cause of death. Lab work, Covid tests, Chest Xrays, Chest CT scans, pulmonologist progress notes, attending physician progress notes, respiratory therapist progress notes, nursing notes, etc.

You can argue that they died of kidney failure associated with sepsis from a secondary bacterial pneumonia acquired after being admitted with Covid infection but it was still the Covid that led to the cascade of events that resulted in death. That's just how Covid kills you-with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. It isn't like Covid produces a poison that kills you. It basically just helps your body to kill itself.
