A US voting machine company filed a $1.3bn (€1.07bn) lawsuit against former President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, accusing him of defamation in what it called his “big lie” campaign about widespread fraud in the presidential election, court documents yesterday showed.
The Denver-based company, Dominion Voting Systems Inc, filed an earlier lawsuit against Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell, whom the company also accused of spreading false conspiracy theories about the election that Mr Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
A senior employee at Dominion, Eric Coomer, also filed a defamation lawsuit against the Trump campaign, saying he had been driven into hiding because of death threats from Trump supporters.
Mr Giuliani and his lawyer, Robert Costello, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Mr Giuliani has stood by his claims about the election, saying during a radio show interview last week he is being attacked for “exercising my right of free speech and defending my client”.
Mr Trump and his allies spent two months denying his election defeat, and claiming without evidence that it was the result of widespread voter fraud, before his supporters stormed the Capitol building on January 6.
Dominion is seeking $1.3bn in damages from the former New York City mayor.
The company alleges in the lawsuit that “he and his allies had manufactured and disseminated the ‘Big Lie,’ which foreseeably went viral and deceived millions of people into believing that Dominion had stolen their votes and fixed the election”.
Dominion said it filed the lawsuit “to set the record straight” and to “stand up for itself, its employees, and the electoral process".
Combat
A group of prominent attorneys last week asked New York’s judiciary to suspend Giuliani’s law licence because he made false claims in post-election lawsuits and for urging Trump’s supporters to engage in “trial by combat” shortly before they stormed the US Capitol on January 6.
Dominion states in its lawsuit that it has spent $565,000 on private security to protect its employees, who are facing harassment and death threats.
“Giuliani’s statements,” the lawsuit stated, “were calculated to and did in fact” provoke outrage and cause Dominion enormous harm”.
Founded in 2002, Dominion is a major US manufacturer of voting machines, and various of these Dominion machines were used in more than two dozen states during the 2020 presidential election.
There are plenty of cases in Canada where this companies electronic voting machines have errored and screwed up... Rudy has nothing to worry about.
WTF? There is so much evidence to the contrary.
This signals to me that Dominion has successfully concealed all fraud algorithms in their machines used in the 2020 Presidential election, in all locations where they were used. Quite a long pause before their lawsuit.. I guess they needed time to get the job done.
Giuliani is licking his chops. The applicable law allows him to examine their entire ownership and financial structure on discovery.
is it evidence? what do ‘it’ and ‘is’ mean? who has more to loose, who is more likely to loose.
why has neither party insisted on properly audited elections? this should be a bipartisan issue with at least 90% support
Giuliani’s answer is priceless.. or actually rises to the level of the suit-— “if they are going to sue for 1.4 Billion— then we will due diligence in providing 1.4 Billion in proof of their fraudulent company and product!” Brilliant.
Not skeered a bit— in fact working up a RICO countersuit.. for they are organized crime.
To me, their instruction manuals give the store away regarding s/w function.
That, along with the vote switching briefly studied in a county in Mich. or Wisc., makes them guilty as suggested.

That is hard to deny.
I found a series of his videos and he is a nut case.
As for this story.....when you see “Trump claims without evidence....”, you knew the writer is very definitely not an impartial reporter.
I didn’t know Rudy had such deep pockets.
Spoiling the evidence is not welcomed in court.

A lawyer once told me, you can have all the law and all the evidence in your favor and a court case is still just a crap shoot.
I think it was lawyer Robert Barnes who said, ninety percent of the time you can determine the verdict based on the judge’s politics.

I’m not sure discovery will be so smooth. Dominion will challenge every request and a sleazy lib judge will agree.
Your knowledge is imcomplete. It’s more than mail-ins.
Watch the linked presentation above, you will see how certain Republican counties had their ballots printed differently so that they would be deliberately misaligned and saved to the Dominion internal adjudication computer file.
