The protocol means Northern Ireland follows the EU's rules on matters like animal product standards and creates extra paperwork on goods travelling from Great Britain. It looks like Brexit left Northern Ireland on the wrong side of the UK/EU border because of various agreements allowing an open border between Northern Ireland and Ireland. What a mess.
