I wrote to both Burr and Tillis about Ashli Babbitt's murder -- insisting that they both demand the arrest of the killer. I received essentially a form reply back, whining about the Capitol dust-up with not a single mention of Ashli Babbitt.
It was basically a "do not vote for me next time" response...
You can hold me to this: if there is a trial, 55 votes is the absolute maximum.

Bannon has been wrong again and again. The Democrats could just ram this through without hearings, witnesses, or evidence just as was done in the House. They’d take a vote and Trump would have no time to make his case. It’s not in their interests to allow his lawyer to make his case or have evidence entered in the record.
I’ve watched C-Span’s coverage of House activities after hours when nobody is there except a few representatives asking questions of each other and entering things in the official record. Why couldn’t Trump’s allies do that? Every evening one takes a particular state and recites in chapter and verse the illegalities in the election there.
I think Ocasio Cortez represents best what that has come to: Get elected, don't do anything for your district and try as hard as you can to be a national celebrity...
Just having it in the record doesn’t make it permanent.
I believe Congresscrittters have the right to go back and “clarify the record”. Which in effect allows them to re-write it as they fit. This is not new, they’ve ben allowed to do this for decades, may 100+ years.
That says as much about her idiot constituents (who re-elected her) as it does about Ms. Jackass Teeth.
“The 17th simply made the senate a glorified house of representatives with a 6 year term. The senate is supposed to be slow and deliberative and not subject to the whims and transient inflamed passions of the day. When senators became popularly elected rather than appointed by the states, that moderating influence was cast to the winds.”
I know that this comment is off topic, but history, common sense and (apolitical) math argue strongly against the Patriot Party, no matter how good it might feel to crush the GOP.
The fact that chief justice Roberts has already said he will not preside over any Senate impeachment trial means that it’s already a farce. it doesn’t matter whether 17 Republicans or all Republicans oppose it. without the United States supreme Court chief justice presiding over the alleged Senate trial this whole thing is a farce.
Only fools, idiots, and Democrats but I repeat myself will believe that trial has any meaning.
“The Dems can do anything they want and get away with it.“
I’ve been saying that for weeks.
That said, I'm currently agnostic with regards to the Patriot Party. You make a sound argument against the formation of a third party. Right now, I'm not entirely convinced that we have a second party.
We need a list of the 21 GOP senators who have not publicly announced their opposition to this direct attack on an American citizen and on our Constitution.
He’s been wrong about what?
There may be no trial or a speedy trial which will result in a dismissal. Almost everyone wants that anyway including Biden. Certainly if there is a trial, Democrats will want to limit the scope or somehow prevent Trump,’s defense team from bringing the fraud out into the open, but it’s hard to do in practice.
Why couldn’t Trump congressional allies make the case? They are in different positions. Trump is a private citizen and has already had all of his platforms taken for him. He’s not dependent upon them for re-election.
Also no one watches these routine Cspan coverage. This trial will get a large audience if not an enormous one. It is the perfect forum to lay out the case.
“Pompeo runs for office in 2024.”
Have you lost your mind? Why should Trump accept and legitimize an unconstitutional decree?
Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is not on the list, but I assume he opposes the trial based on previous comments, and he is up for re-election next time.
Only 29 out of 50? That infuriates me. Too many (Rs) seem to be fine with having a banana republic America.
Why is this even be discussed when Chief Justice John Roberts won’t participate but is required to, constitutionally?
Local GOPs, where are you and why aren’t you speaking up?
"Meaning" plays out in more than one way. One is as you siuggest, what people think of the whole thing.
Did the Russian collusion hoax have any meaning?
Did it have any effect?
Congress as an institution operates largely on dishonest pretext, or by head in the sand. Trying to apply some written rule to events is an academic activity. The actual effect will be applied by lunatics.
I'll be shocked if the Senate allows an airing of evidence the election was wrongly decided. It's not hard for them to do that. Just rule the evidence inadmissible. That decision is made by the presidingf oficer (Leahy), and the Senate can vote on it if one Senator opposes the ruling. Majority of the Senate will endorse the inadmissible ruling.
Congress is a failed institution. It's out of control. Run by lunatic criminals.
Even that corrupt POS Roberts is saying Hell no!
