Time, wind, storm, currents, these all influence drift patterns.
But then again, is it easier to gather wreckage and bury it somewhere rather than go through the logistics nightmare of finding pieces, picking them up, traveling across an ocean and then dumping parts that can be found, and keeping it a secret?
Parts have forensic traces of other particles that contribute to a jet breaking up into a gazillion pieces. No trace evidence found on any recovered pieces.
But maybe I’m wrong, as a USAF certified mishap investigator that participated in three mishap investigation, one just “disappeared” and the pilots body never found, strange things happen and we have to make our best assessment given the facts, facts at hand.
