WASHINGTON (AP) — A growing number of Republican senators say they oppose holding an impeachment trial, a sign of the dimming chances that former President Donald Trump will be convicted on the charge that he incited a siege of the U.S. Capitol.
House Democrats, who will walk the impeachment charge of “incitement of insurrection” to the Senate on Monday evening, are hoping that strong Republican denunciations of Trump after the Jan. 6 riot will translate into a conviction and a separate vote to bar Trump from holding office again. But GOP passions appear to have cooled since the insurrection, and now that Trump’s presidency is over, Republican senators who will serve as jurors in the trial are rallying to his legal defense, as they did during his first impeachment trial last year.
“I think the trial is stupid, I think it’s counterproductive,” said Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.. He said that “the first chance I get to vote to end this trial, I’ll do it” because he believes it would be bad for the country and further inflame partisan divisions.

I agree, nothing but upside for Trump. They will have their trial, and Trump will have the opportunity to show the receipts for the fraud he has spent months documenting at a cost of millions to his campaign.
The democrats will have to sit their while their massive election fraud is revealed to the world.
Meanwhile, Biden, who already trails Trump in the polls, is floundering day by day as his incompetence and America-last agenda hits America in the face like a brass-knuckle beating.
As Trump exposes the fraud in granular detail, the affected states will start their own evidentiary process and the true constitutional crisis will become, how do we now rid ourselves of a fraudulent president, and his fraudfeasor party known as the Democrats?
Biden is about to enjoy the smallest honeymoon period for any president except for Trump.

If Rubio was honest, he’d advocate a trial so Trump could produce evidence the election was decided wrongly.
If the DEMs insist on a trial, and they have the power to do so, then this is the opportunity to defend Trump. None of them is defending Trump. None of them is defending the notion that MAYBE the election was decided wrongly, and the public deserves to see an accounting.

Any SMART elected Republican with reasonable pro-Trump credentials will switch out of the Republican Party and join the Patriot Party. Otherwise, they might as well retire before their next election.
The GOP needs to jettison the RINOs if it wants to survive as a party. It’s unfortunate that RINO infestation of the party is so pervasive.

I doubt that. I predict the Senate will rule that evidence on the election is inadmissible. This is an incitement trial.
The GOP is fine with finding Trump did not incite.
The GOP will never admit the election was decided wrongly., That subject is now forbidden, having been conclusively and finally decided, of course correctly.
I think THAT spectacle, the senate acting like the ostrich with head in sand, is what they fear. It will enrage people. People will see just how duplicitous the institution really is. The last thing it stands for is a search for truth.
