3,000 arrested at protests demanding Navalny’s release [Russia]

The 44-year-old activist is well known nationally for his reports on the corruption that has flourished under President Vladimir Putin’s government.

His wide support puts the Kremlin in a strategic bind — risking more protests and criticism from the West if it keeps him in custody but apparently unwilling to back down by letting him go free.

Protests erupted in dozens of cities [90] across Russia on Saturday to demand the release of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the Kremlin’s most prominent foe. Police arrested more than 3,000 people, some of whom took to the streets in temperatures as frigid as minus-58 degrees Fahrenheit.

In Moscow, thousands of demonstrators filled Pushkin Square in the city center, where clashes with police broke out and demonstrators were roughly dragged off by helmeted riot officers to police buses and detention trucks, some beaten with batons. Navalny’s wife Yulia was among those arrested.

The protests stretched across Russia’s vast territory...[and] demonstrated how Navalny and his anti-corruption campaign have built an extensive network of support despite official government repression and being routinely ignored by state media.

Navalny was arrested on Jan. 17 when he returned to Moscow from Germany, where he had spent five months recovering from a severe nerve-agent poisoning that he blames on the Kremlin and which Russian authorities deny.

I'm seeing a parallel to the now illegitimate government of the United States in this quote from a Moscow protester...

“The situation is getting worse and worse, it’s total lawlessness -- And if we stay silent, it will go on forever.”

In the U.S. we have stolen elections, non-enforcement of laws, sold out and lying politicians, corruption of the FBI and other segments of government, elites evading justice for crimes, etc. etc.]

Russians experienced as a nation and people what the demoncrats wish to impose here. Americans have yet to comprehend what they have lost and will lose.

Alexei Navalny is Ukrainian with Russia roots....Belonged to the 'Russian United Democratic Party' before he started his own socialist party with several name changes one of which was the "Progress Party".....He's also the Wests Oligarch puppet activist to rile up the protests in Russia...... he thinks he's Russia's next President.....he's also an activist shareholder in Russia's 5 oil and gas companies...

Here he is ten years ago doing his activist work also uses youtube and twitter to increase his following....so over the years he's attained some popularity by fighting against corruption and primarily by organizing unauthorized demonstrations.

“Russians experienced as a nation and people what the demoncrats wish to impose here. “

____________

Except worse, Democrat politicians and their communist funders want our national sovereignty destroyed and our patriots killed. Most of the GOP politicians work toward the same goals. Russia and China don’t work to destroy their own national sovereignty.

Sleepy46 is no match for Vlad. He’ll be like his former boss, Barry. Draw a line in the sand and then draw a new line two steps back when the first one is crossed. And on and on.

......” Russia and China don’t work to destroy their own national sovereignty”......

Great observation....we’re just getting around to recognizing our parties aren’t nationalistic in the least bit. They’re more like Soviet Russia wearing a mask....pun intended!

"In 2017, Alexey Navalny and the Anti-Corruption Foundation publish the investigation movie «Don't Call Him Dimon» about the «secret empire» of the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. It contains proof that the head of the government and his trustees have created a corrupt network of charity foundations that received billions of rubles from oligarchs. This money was used to buy yachts and build residences, villas and vineyards. «Don't Call Him Dimon» was watched by over 25 million Russians. On March 26, protests took place in 84 Russian cities. The protesters demanded an official reaction to Navalny's investigation from the government."

This is nothing more then Soros trying to overthrow Putin. Im glad Putin poisoned Nalvany. Putin always kills liberals which is why they despise him.
Hope he cuts of Nalvanys head and sends it to Biden in a box.

The US embassy promoted these protests on their website.

Its the old regime change neocon, neolib foreign policy that took out the government in Ukraine with street protests in 2014.

They probably wish they had the jihadists to back up the demonstrators like they did in Libya and Syria in 2011.

It may be Biden’s revenge on Russia who he wants to blame for bad things like “interference in elections”.

As I’ve noted before, if the Russian media is ANYTHING like our media (and I suspect that they are), then I have no sympathies for anyone arrested there.

“Yes, it is very bad. And that has been known here on FR for a very long time.”

Yep, we tried to warn the people on our side, and they thought we were paranoid. I think it goes back to thinking that Americans would NEVER do such things to other Americans.

One should never think that, as I’m sure that’s exactly what the Cambodians thought in 1975 when, no doubt, they were warned of the Khmer Rouge.

“Putin always kills liberals which is why they despise him.”

True that they despise him - but the REAL HATRED towards Putin only really started in 2014, when he signed a law preventing gays from recruiting kids - that’s when the Left over there (and here) took the gloves off.

I don’t think that’s what actually provoked it, but I think that’s what they realized they were able to use to get the social media crowd worked up about Russia.
